Job description

DealMaker is a fast-growing fintech company revolutionizing the capital markets ecosystem with a mission to make online capital raising mainstream. We empower founders, CEOs, and operators to raise capital digitally, both from their own communities and through strategically marketed campaigns. No other platform provides an end-to-end solution like ours-and our track record speaks for itself, with over $2B raised across 1,000+ campaigns. We power the largest online capital raises for customers like EnergyX ($88M), Green Bay Packers ($65M), Miso Robotics ($72M+), Monogram Orthopaedics (Nasdaq:MGRM) and many others, with 3 IPOs in the past year alone. We are quickly expanding our horizons and are seeking talented team members to join us on our journey to transform the global capital market.
About DealMaker, from the People perspective
We are approximately 200 people across Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, and Medellín, operating at the intersection of technology, performance marketing, capital markets, and customer experience.
Our co-founders built their careers as capital markets lawyers, and that discipline still shapes how we operate. We encourage decisions to have a clear reason behind them, leaders to know their business, and people to take real ownership of outcomes.
We move quickly, speak directly, and care more about solving the problem than protecting the process. We are building a lean, AI-enabled company where strong people are trusted with meaningful responsibility and expected to use judgment.
The People team plays an important role in making that possible. Our job is not to add layers or slow the company down. It is to build the systems, leadership capability, and operating clarity that help great people do their best work.
Who Are You
You will be the first dedicated People team member based in our New York office. Our NYC office has approximately 20 employees.
That gives you a meaningful opportunity to shape how the People function shows up locally while also supporting one of the most important parts of the business: our Customer organization.
During your first 6-9 months, your primary client group will be the Customer organization, a team of approximately 80 people working primarily across Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. Over time, your scope may expand into additional teams as our People Partner model grows.
You will work closely with managers, employees, and senior leaders to improve performance, strengthen management capability, identify team issues early, and make sure People programs are applied in a way that is useful rather than theoretical.
This is a hands-on partnership role. You will be expected to build trust, use judgment, and stay close to the work.
What You'll Do
You will help define what strong People partnership looks like at DealMaker: practical, direct, close to the business, and focused on helping managers lead well.
You will have the opportunity to build relationships from the ground up, become a trusted advisor to a major client group, and influence how the People Partner model evolves across the company.
You will also bring a local People presence to New York, helping strengthen connection, communication, and employee experience in one of DealMaker's growing offices.
What You'll Own
  • Serve as the day-to-day People Partner for the Customer organization, building strong relationships with leaders and managers across locations
  • Coach managers on performance, feedback, policy application, team dynamics, and difficult employee conversations
  • Help managers prepare for important conversations so they are clear, fair, and grounded in facts
  • Support the early stages of employee relations matters by gathering information, documenting concerns, identifying risk, and escalating appropriately
  • Participate in performance and exit conversations, ensuring they are handled with consistency, care, and professionalism
  • Deliver manager training, tools, and follow-up support so leadership practices become part of the way teams operate
  • Support the implementation of performance, engagement, compensation, and People programs within your client group
  • Identify patterns in manager capability, morale, performance, and team health, and turn those observations into useful insight for leadership
  • Support organizational changes, team transitions, and communication within your client group
  • Partner with People Operations to ensure onboarding, offboarding, leaves, policy questions, and employee lifecycle processes run smoothly
  • Build a strong, visible People presence in the NYC office
  • Help shape the future People Partner model as the company and team continue to grow
What Success Looks Like
Within your first year:
  • Managers seek your advice before difficult situations escalate
  • The Customer organization receives consistent, practical People support across locations
  • Performance and employee concerns are identified earlier and addressed more effectively
  • Managers are better prepared to give feedback, set expectations, and handle difficult conversations
  • People programs are understood and adopted rather than treated as one-time HR exercises
  • Leaders receive useful insight into team health, capability, and emerging risks
  • Employees in the NYC office know who to turn to and feel connected to the wider People team
  • You have helped establish a clear, credible model for People partnership at DealMaker
What Skills You Need
  • 4-6 years of experience in an HR generalist, People Partner, or similar role
  • Experience supporting managers directly on performance and employee matters
  • Strong judgment about what you can handle independently and what needs escalation
  • Confidence coaching managers, including leaders who may be more senior or experienced than you
  • Experience supporting performance processes, employee exits, onboarding, and organizational change
  • The ability to build trusted relationships across offices and time zones
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • A practical approach to policy and process
  • Comfort working independently while staying closely connected to a Toronto-based People team

Extra Credit
  • Experience as the first People team member in a new office or location
  • Experience supporting a Customer Success, Support, Sales, or other customer-facing organization
  • Experience working in a founder-led or high-growth company
  • Experience delivering manager training
  • Experience using engagement or People data to identify organizational patterns
  • Experience supporting distributed teams across New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto

Travel
Some travel to Los Angeles and Toronto will be required to build relationships, support leaders, and participate in company and People team planning.
This is a hybrid, NYC based role (4 days in-office in NYC - 30 East 23rd Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10010 ).
