About the Human Resources & Payrol Transitions Team
As part of Baker Tilly's Managed Services offering, the HR and Payroll Transitions team helps new clients stabilize HR and payroll operations, implement cloud payroll systems, and design scalable processes. We focus on project-based work that sets clients up for long-term success before they transition to recurring service teams.
We're seeking a tech-savvy Payroll Project Manager to lead client onboarding and payroll system implementations. This role combines HR & payroll expertise, project leadership, and technology to help clients modernize their HR and payroll operations and ensure a smooth transition to ongoing support.

What You'll Do
  • Lead client onboarding from kickoff through transition to recurring teams
  • Serve as the primary client contact; manage scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Implement and optimize cloud payroll platforms (QBO Payroll, ADP Payroll Platforms - RUN, WFN, Lyric)
  • Integrate third-party tools when or as needed (APS connectors, insurance benefits connections)
  • Identify risks, resolve issues, and drive process improvements
  • Provide regular deliverables to the client regarding project status from start to transition to ongoing service
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field (plus if you have a PMP)
  • 8+ years of payroll experience, including 5+ years in consulting leading payroll system implementations, migrations, and process/technology assessments
  • Deep payroll knowledge and experience reviewing payroll records and general ledger connections
  • Experience with cloud accounting and ERP platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, ADP Platforms)
  • Ability to train, influence, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels (staff to C-suite) while delivering high-quality results under deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize deliverables for different clients
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization skills
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to drive projects forward while navigating potential challenges along the way
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
