Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced MSSQL Database Administrator with proven expertise in cloud migration projects. The ideal candidate will manage, maintain, and optimize our Microsoft SQL Server environments, while also leading or supporting the migration of database workloads to cloud platforms (such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud). This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with both on-premises and cloud-based database solutions. Key Responsibilities: Database Administration: Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Microsoft SQL Server instances. Monitor database performance, tune queries, and optimize indexes. Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On, Log Shipping, Replication). Perform regular backups and restores; ensure data integrity and security. Manage users, roles, and permissions following best practices. Cloud Migration: Assess existing on-premises SQL Server environments and plan cloud migration strategies. Execute migrations to cloud platforms (preferably Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, or AWS RDS). Use migration tools such as Data Migration Assistant (DMA), Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), or equivalent. Test and validate data integrity and application performance post-migration. Optimize cloud database resources for cost, performance, and scalability. Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts for automation of routine tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or cloud-native tools. Monitor and automate alerts, reports, and maintenance jobs. Documentation & Support: Create and maintain detailed documentation of database architecture, configurations, and migration processes. Provide technical support for application and development teams. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and service requests. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). 10+ years of experience as a MMSSQL Server DBA. Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Proven experience in database migrations from on-premises to cloud. Strong knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and performance tuning. Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting. Experience with cloud-native database monitoring and management tools. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus. Preferred Skills: Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., ARM templates, Terraform). Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments. Experience with other RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL) is a plus
