What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Program Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Program Assistant, you need strong organizational abilities, familiarity with medical terminology, and at least a high school diploma or associate degree in a related field. Proficiency with healthcare management software, electronic health records (EHR), and scheduling systems is commonly required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask are vital soft skills in this role. These skills ensure efficient program coordination, accurate record-keeping, and smooth interactions between patients, staff, and providers.

What are some common challenges faced by Medical Program Assistants, and how can they be addressed?

Medical Program Assistants often juggle multiple administrative tasks, such as scheduling, record-keeping, and patient communication, which can become challenging when priorities shift rapidly. Adapting to frequent changes and maintaining attention to detail are essential skills in this role. Effective time management, clear communication with medical staff, and staying organized through digital tools or checklists can help address these challenges. Building strong relationships with colleagues also ensures better workflow and support when handling high-pressure situations.

What are Medical Program Assistants?

Medical Program Assistants are administrative professionals who support the operations of healthcare programs within hospitals, clinics, or public health organizations. They handle tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, coordinating communication between medical staff, and assisting with program logistics. Their work ensures that healthcare programs run smoothly and efficiently, allowing medical providers to focus on patient care. Medical Program Assistants may also help with billing, data entry, and basic clinical tasks depending on the setting.

What job makes 10,000 a month without a degree?

High-paying roles that can reach this level without a degree are rare and often involve specialized skills, certifications, or entrepreneurial ventures. Most jobs with such income levels require significant experience, licensing, or business ownership.

Keep the mission moving. Support the work behind the scenes that changes lives. Join U.S.VETS and help ensure veterans and their families receive the support and services they need.
Are you highly organized, detail-oriented, and someone who enjoys keeping systems running smoothly? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments where your work supports both staff operations and client success?
U.S.VETS-the nation's largest nonprofit dedicated to preventing and ending veteran homelessness-is seeking a Program Assistant to provide administrative and operational support for our Las Vegas programs.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing organization, problem-solving, and teamwork while supporting a mission-driven organization.
The Opportunity

You will work closely with program staff, operations, accounting, and leadership teams to help ensure services are delivered efficiently and in compliance with program requirements.
This is a role for someone who notices details, stays organized under pressure, and understands that strong operations support directly impacts client services.
What You'll Do
  • Maintain Program Records: Support client file management, database updates, and audit preparation
  • Track & Reconcile Financials: Assist with petty cash, rent collection, reimbursements, invoices, and expense tracking
  • Coordinate Purchases & Supplies: Monitor inventory, submit purchase requests, and track vendor balances
  • Support Program Operations: Assist with intake documentation, orientations, and supportive service coordination
  • Assist with Reporting: Compile data for grant reporting, billing, and budget tracking
  • Coordinate Events & Volunteers: Support planning for events, volunteer projects, and community activities
  • Support Human Resources Activities: Assist with interview scheduling, onboarding coordination, and training tracking
  • Provide Administrative Support: Assist managers, staff, and interns with operational and administrative needs
  • Coordinate Mail & Deliveries: Track shipments, donations, and outgoing mailings
What Makes You a Strong Fit
  • You are organized and highly detail-oriented
  • You can manage multiple priorities without losing accuracy
  • You communicate professionally and follow through consistently
  • You are proactive and willing to step in where needed
  • You work well independently while also supporting a team environment

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in social services or related field
(Employment at U.S.VETS for at least 3 months may substitute for experience)
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage both short-term tasks and long-term projects
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of veteran services, homelessness, or community resources is a plus
Why Join U.S.VETS?
At U.S.VETS, operational support isn't background work-it's part of the mission.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off
  • Career Growth: Opportunities to grow into operations, program coordination, and leadership roles
  • Mission-Driven Environment: Support programs that directly impact veterans and families
