Controller Description

Our client, a well-established, privately owned manufacturing company ($25M revenue), is seeking a hands-on Controller to serve as a trusted financial leader and strategic partner to ownership, overseeing the accounting function across multiple operating companies. This is a newly created position driven by growth, not turnover. While the CEO has historically overseen the financial function with support from a part-time Controller, the company has reached the point where he's ready to bring in a dedicated financial leader who can take ownership of the day-to-day accounting operation while helping identify opportunities to strengthen the business.

The CEO is looking for more than a traditional Controller. He views this person as his right hand and a key business partner, not simply someone responsible for reporting the numbers and closing the books each month. As he shared, he's looking for someone who wants to "leave their DNA on the business." The ideal person isn't afraid to write their own playbook. They appreciate having the resources and trust to succeed while working for a leader who gives them the space to find the best solution, asks questions, and encourages new ideas. If you're someone who enjoys building, improving, and challenging the status quo, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a growing business.

Controller Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of two accounting professionals
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close across six operating brands
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and executive reporting
  • Manage the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting in ERP
  • Oversee budgeting, cash flow, banking, and day-to-day financial operations
  • Analyze job costing and profitability to improve margins and business performance
  • Partner with production and estimating to strengthen costing and reporting
  • Improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency
  • Oversee audits, tax coordination, and external CPA relationships
  • Partner with ownership to support growth, profitability, and strategic decisions

Who You Are

  • You want to be more than the person who reports what happened last month. You want to understand why it happened and help influence what happens next.
  • You have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leading the month-end close and preparing financial statements.
  • You have cost accounting experience and a strong understanding of how labor, equipment, and overhead factors into the cost of a job or manufacturing operation.
  • You enjoy finding ways to improve processes and give leadership better visibility.
