Plant Controller

Position Summary

The Plant Controller serves as the financial leader for the manufacturing facility, partnering closely with plant leadership to drive operational performance and informed business decisions. This role is responsible for overseeing all plant financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, inventory controls, financial analysis, and reporting. The Plant Controller will provide actionable financial insights, support operational initiatives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement while ensuring the integrity of financial information.

This position also leads the plant accounting team and collaborates cross-functionally to identify opportunities to improve profitability, optimize costs, and strengthen financial performance.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Act as the primary finance partner to the Plant Manager and site leadership team.
  • Translate financial results into meaningful business insights that support operational decision-making.
  • Help department leaders understand key cost drivers and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Provide financial guidance for strategic initiatives and plant performance improvement efforts.


Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Prepare and present monthly operating reviews with plant leadership.
  • Analyze financial performance by comparing actual results against budget and forecast.
  • Evaluate labor, material, overhead, and production variances and work with department leaders to develop corrective action plans.
  • Perform return on investment (ROI) analyses to support capital expenditure decisions.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance on capital planning and investment projects.


Cost Accounting & Product Costing

  • Maintain the integrity of standard costs and product cost files.
  • Support new product launches by developing and validating product cost estimates.
  • Monitor manufacturing costs and recommend improvements to increase cost accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Utilize activity-based costing information to enhance reporting and improve financial visibility.


Inventory & Manufacturing Controls

  • Oversee inventory accounting processes to ensure inventory accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
  • Analyze inventory transactions, adjustments, and variances while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Operations to strengthen inventory controls and support accurate physical inventory processes.
