What are the typical working hours and expectations for live-in nannies?

Live-in nannies usually have more flexible schedules than live-out nannies, often covering early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends depending on the family's needs. While you generally have room and board provided, it's common for families to outline defined 'on-duty' hours, along with agreed-upon time off for rest and personal activities. Responsibilities can range from supervising children's daily routines, assisting with homework, meal preparation, to light housekeeping related to the children. Open communication with your employer about duties and boundaries is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance in this role.

How much do live-in nannies earn?

Live-in nannies typically earn between $400 and $800 per week, depending on experience, responsibilities, and location. They often receive room and board as part of their compensation and may earn additional benefits or bonuses for extra duties or overtime.

Can you have a live-in nanny?

A live-in nanny is a professional caregiver who resides in the employer's home to provide childcare and household assistance. This arrangement often requires a private living space, clear work hours, and sometimes a formal contract or background check. It is a common setup for families needing consistent, around-the-clock childcare support.

What is a Live In Nanny job?

A Live-In Nanny is a childcare provider who resides with the family they work for, offering full-time support in caring for children. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, bathing, engaging in educational activities, and assisting with household tasks related to the children. This arrangement often provides more flexibility for parents, as the nanny is available for early mornings, evenings, or emergencies. In exchange for their services, live-in nannies usually receive room and board in addition to a salary. The specific duties and expectations depend on the family's needs and the nanny's contract.

How does a live-in nanny get paid?

A live-in nanny is typically paid through a regular salary, often on a weekly or biweekly basis, and may include benefits such as room and board. Payment methods can include checks, direct deposit, or cash, depending on the employer's preference and local employment laws. Nannies may also receive overtime pay for extra hours worked and should have a written employment agreement outlining compensation details.

Is live-in nanny cheaper than live-out?

Live-in nannies are often less expensive on a weekly basis because they typically receive room and board as part of their compensation, reducing cash wages. However, the overall cost may be higher due to additional expenses like housing, food, and benefits, making the total cost comparable or sometimes more than a live-out nanny who is paid solely in wages. The choice depends on the employer's preferences and budget considerations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Live In Nanny position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Nanny, you need childcare experience, basic first aid and CPR certification, and a proven ability to manage household routines. Familiarity with schedules, meal planning, and child safety protocols, as well as use of communication logs or childcare apps, is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, reliability, and cultural sensitivity help build positive relationships with families. These skills ensure children's well-being, seamless household operations, and trust between nanny and employer.

Job description

Overview
NATIONWIDE SEARCH: THE WOODLANDS, TX- A warm, active family of five in the Carlton Woods gated community is seeking an experienced, full-time live-out Nanny/House Manager to join their household team and become a trusted, long-term presence in their children's daily lives. With three outgoing, energetic kids, a fully staffed large home, and a family culture built around togetherness and low-key structure, this is a role for someone who genuinely loves the work and shows up ready to engage every single day.
The family has three children: a 3-year-old boy and two girls ages 7 and 9. All three are active, social, and love being outside. The girls are into arts and crafts, baking, and cooking, and each child brings their own distinct personality. The oldest is sensitive and thoughtful, the middle child is fiercely independent, and the youngest is a curious three-year-old still learning his place in the world. The right nanny will appreciate those nuances and meet each child where they are.
The first year will be more heavily weighted toward hands-on childcare with the 3-year-old, who is currently in part-time preschool. As he grows into full-time school, the role will naturally evolve to include more driving, activity coordination, and family assistant responsibilities. The position runs Monday through Friday, 11:30am to 7:30pm, within a true team dynamic alongside mom. When mom is present and engaged with the kids, the nanny shifts to support mode, tending to other household needs. That kind of situational awareness and team-mindedness is essential here.
Daily responsibilities include alternating school pickups, driving to extracurricular activities, homework support, and being fully present with whichever children are home. The home has a chef on staff, so cooking is limited to preparing school lunches. Additional duties include children's laundry, light cleaning, running errands, swimming with the children, administering medications as needed, and caring for the family's 90-pound Bernedoodle. The home sits on a cul-de-sac with a large backyard, pool, and sport court, and comfort in and around water is a must. The household is fully staffed with an estate manager and housekeeper, so the nanny should be comfortable working in a home where other staff are present throughout the day.
The family's approach to parenting is warm, relaxed, and traditional in its values. They are not a strict household and want their children to be genuinely excited about their nanny. The ideal candidate will follow the family's lead, respect their parenting style, and bring positive, easy energy into the home rather than rigidity. Screen time is minimal at home, with tablets reserved for travel only. Spanish fluency is a meaningful bonus. The family has no vaccination preferences.
Approximately two to four overnight stays per month are required, along with occasional weekend flexibility when the father travels. Travel with the family is welcomed, and there is potential for extended summer travel as well. The targeted start date is August 6, 2026, with some flexibility.
The family is open to out-of-state candidates and offers a relocation assistance package of $5,000 to $8,000. An NDA is required. Benefits include 10 PTO days, 5 sick days, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a potential health insurance stipend. Compensation is $32-42 gross per hour, commensurate with experience, paid biweekly via payroll. Mileage reimbursement is provided if the candidate uses their own vehicle.
