Salary: $47,037-53,564*

*depending upon previous relevant experience. Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application and resume.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 

  • Operates an accessible student, staff, and family friendly library, with primary emphasis on instilling a passion for reading and learning, teaching research and information literacy skills, and collaborating with teachers in support of classroom curriculum, grades K-6.
  • Implements a library program that encourages a positive learning environment and supports The Classical Academy's educational philosophy and Core Values.

Reports to the Head Librarian.

Works collaboratively with Principal.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Effectively manages the campus school library facility by developing and maintaining a teaching and learning environment that is fun, welcoming, safe, flexible, collaborative, and conducive to learning.
  • Oversees campus specific library resources and actively participates in collection development and maintenance.
  • Follows TCA policies and procedures for collection development, circulation, and use of library resources.
  • Maximizes use of library resources to students and staff within the physical library space, the online library catalog, digital and audio books, and various information resources.
  • Supports and collaborates with classroom and specials teachers in support of grade level curriculum.
  • Collaborates with the library team and creates lesson plans based on the TCA information literacy curriculum.
  • Conducts classroom instruction, book talks and other objectives through both scheduled and flexible library classes with every grade level classroom during library open hours.
  • Fosters exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset guiding students, staff, and parents with book selection for school research, for understanding and/or pleasure reading.
  • Models and champions digital citizenship and safety and adherence to copyright and fair use requirements, acting as an advisor for staff in consultation with the Head Librarian.
  • Designs and creates book displays and promotions that are changed and updated frequently.
  • Functions as a member of the campus "Specials" Team. Attends school staff meetings, library staff meetings, and open house events as needed.
  • Performs circulation functions digitally using the online library management system, and physically by shelving, and shelf reading collection.
  • Performs physical collection maintenance, including weeding, repairing books, inventory, and other needs.
  • Works with the Head Librarian in digital collection maintenance including updates to patron accounts within the management system, and upkeep of existing catalog MARC records.
  • Directs and oversees the work of library volunteers and acts as supervisor to campus hourly library staff.
  • Reviews and recommends books and non-print media for purchase within the library budget.
  • Collaborates with library staff in planning and execution of student book clubs, library fundraisers and events and manages organization of campus specific book clubs, fundraisers, and events.
  • Assists teachers and instructs students in the use of print materials, online reference sources and technology tools, and proper resource citations.
  • Provides excellent service to staff, students, and parents in person, by email and/or by telephone.
  • Ensures the library is staffed before and after school, as specified by the Head Librarian.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Hosts occasional non-library related functions scheduled in the library (during normal work hours).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required, in Education preferred.
  • Courses in library science a plus.
  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited university desirable.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Teaching information literacy skills.
  • Developing a love for literature in students.
  • Knowledge of library online catalog functions, children's literature and library procedures preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Dewey classification system and LC subject headings.
  • Ability to effectively search online databases and digital and online resources.
  • Experience working with automated library systems and other technology.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Character Education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
  • Thorough commitment to TCA's philosophy, core values, and mission statement.
  • Possess strong planning, classroom management and prioritizing skills.

  • MEDICAL INSURANCE: There are three options for Medical coverage, including an HSA option; as well as access to OneMedical for eligible staff members who elect a TCA Medical plan. The Classical Academy (TCA) makes a monthly contribution toward your medical premiums as an employee.
  • DENTAL INSURANCE: Dental insurance is offered through Delta Dental of Colorado. TCA makes a monthly contribution toward the premium for this benefit
  • LIFE INSURANCE/LTD: Employees are provided a $25,000 group term life insurance through The Standard Life Insurance Company and offers Long-term Disability coverage as well. TCA pays the full cost of group term life insurance and long-term disability benefits. Accident and hospital indemnity plans are also available to employees through The Standard, for an additional cost.
  • RETIREMENT PLAN: Administered by Colorado PERA, this is a tax deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. TCA contributes 20.9% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
  • VOLUNTARY VISION INSURANCE: EyeMed is the voluntary vision program available to TCA employees.
  • WELLNESS PROGRAM: A voluntary wellness program though Orriant is offered in which employees are eligible to earn an incentive of up to $150 for participation AND achievement of wellness activity goals
  • RETIREMENT OPTIONS: Employees may elect to participate in deferred income for retirement purposes: PERA Plus 401(k) through Empower

  • TIME OFF COMPENSATION: An employee with 0.5 to 1.0 FTE will receive Staff Leave and Personal Leave. For positions less than 1.0 FTE, leave time will be prorated based on FTE. Our leave program is fully compliant with the Colorado Healthy Families Workplace Act.
  • PRIORITY ENROLLMENT STATUS: Children of staff members 0.4 FTE and above receive priority enrollment of their child/children at The Classical Academy.
