DESCRIPTION: Performs activities related to coordinating a library within a school building, including ordering and shelving books and materials and maintaining inventory, updating library information, checking out books and materials, and assisting students in using the library.
SALARY: Classified, starting at Grade J, $20.13 based on previous job experience. 8 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday on the 9-month work calendar, paid over 12 months. Position is eligible for benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working under the direct supervision of the librarian in the library and copy room.
  • Understanding the purpose and function of a school library.
  • Organizing and arranging a collection.
  • Receiving and processing materials.
  • Working with technology in the library.
  • Developing a library schedule, maintaining inventory.
  • Dealing with lost and overdue materials.
  • Working with teachers and running copies for teachers.
  • Responsible for setting up training sessions to educate students on how to use the library.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, some college education preferred.
  • Possess good listening skills and works as a team player.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Enjoys working with middle school students.
  • Library instructional skills helpful.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
