Job description

The Assistant Controller supports the financial integrity of United Ag by overseeing core accounting functions related to the cooperative. This role is responsible for general ledger oversight, financial reporting, and supporting audit processes, while partnering with operational leaders to ensure accurate cost tracking, inventory valuation, and budget alignment across the cooperative.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support and review general ledger activity for all operations
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Monitor account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in preparation of internal and external financial reports
  • Support audit processes (internal/external) and documentation requests
  • Ensure compliance with cooperatives accounting standards
  • Assist in tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support annual budgeting process across departments
  • Analyze variances and provide insight to leadership
  • Partner with CFO on forecasting and financial planning
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/ Requirements:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience with general ledger, close processes, and financial reporting

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally with operations teams
  • Strong systems knowledge
  • Ability to translate financial data into business insights
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
