What is an inbound sales executive?

Inbound Sales Executives are professionals responsible for handling incoming sales inquiries from potential customers. They engage with leads who have shown interest in a company's products or services, answer questions, provide information, and guide them through the purchasing process. Their main goal is to convert these inbound leads into customers by understanding their needs and offering suitable solutions. Unlike outbound sales roles, inbound sales focus on responding to interested prospects rather than initiating contact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an inbound sales executive?

To thrive as an Inbound Sales Executive, you need strong communication, persuasion, and active listening skills, often supported by a background in sales or customer service. Familiarity with CRM software, sales tracking tools, and sometimes product-specific certifications are typically required. Resilience, adaptability, and relationship-building abilities are crucial soft skills that set top performers apart. These competencies enable Inbound Sales Executives to effectively convert leads, build customer trust, and meet sales targets in a competitive environment.

How does an inbound sales executive typically collaborate with the marketing and customer support teams?

As an Inbound Sales Executive, you’ll work closely with the marketing team to ensure that leads generated from campaigns are properly qualified and nurtured through the sales funnel. Additionally, you’ll often coordinate with the customer support team to address client concerns, gather product feedback, and ensure a seamless handoff after closing sales. This cross-functional collaboration helps improve the customer experience and supports your success in meeting sales goals.

Job description

With our origins in Miami, Florida, we own and operate a network of five well-reviewed local news digital media brands in cities around the US, each of which delivers newsletter with original content and community experiences that help people connect to their city and "live like you live here." We attract advertisers who want to reach our loyal readers across our brands. We embrace innovative solutions and technology to deliver the engagement our advertisers need in a way that works for our audiences.
Techcrunch wrote "WhereBy.Us is one of the few success stories from a catastrophic decade in local news".
Our investors include important digital media companies such as Knight Foundation and McClatchy as well as leading seed investors such as Brick Capital Ventures (founded by Andrew Craissati, a former experienced media executive from Universal Studios, National Geographic and Richard Branson's Virgin Group) and Jason Calacanis (LAUNCH, angel investor, author and podcaster)
Our company is growing, so we are now seeking a talented and ambitious Sale Executive to help drive the next phase of growth for the company. This role has a focus on generating revenues for the New Tropic in Miami, although you would work with our other sales team, Editorial team and other members of the company to share best practices and drive the company forward.
Who are we?
We believe in doing the right thing for our clients, our partners, our people, our audiences, our communities and our shareholders. We believe in being a diverse and inclusive business - and strive to ensure that our communities are fairly represented within the business. We are constantly striving to be at the forefront of the newsletter industry. We seek out ways to evolve and improve. We are agile and dynamic. We possess a healthy curiosity about the world around us. We are optimists.
What will the Sales Executive do?
Your primary objective in this role is to build a pipeline and convert qualified sales leads for the business. You will manage new and existing client relationships, working closely with the Editorial and Management teams. You will also build our reputation and wider awareness within the media industry and amongst our target client base.
Your role and key responsibilities include:
  • Initiating conversations with prospective leads and responding to inbound sales enquiries
  • Building strategic relationships with key decision-makers at organizations in Miami
  • Delivering the sales targets set by the Board
  • Building innovative sales approaches that help WhereBy.Us stand out from the crowd
  • Representing the company at relevant meetings and events in Miami: developing relationships across the target sectors
  • Providing insights and feedback obtained from commercial conversations to help inform our marketing and proposition development
  • Working closely with your colleagues to refine our sales processes, including identifying suitable tools and data sets that will expedite lead generation
  • Diligently tracking and reporting on weekly activity and key accounts
  • Being a key point of contact for prospective and existing clients; the ability to become a trusted partner to clients will be critical to your success in this role

Who you are:
  • You love solution sales
  • You're naturally able to communicate complex ideas
  • You are pro-active, decisive and action-oriented
  • You are reliable, professional and well-organized
  • You are persuasive and inventive
  • You are comfortable delivering against revenue targets
  • You are comfortable acting autonomously and creatively
  • You are able to conduct high-level conversations with clients and align to product messaging
  • You are commercially savvy; comfortable negotiating and astute when it comes to the details
  • You are an active listener, able to gain a good understanding of client needs and to draw upon your knowledge of WhereBy.Us to address them

As Sales Executive, you have already:
  • Had experience working in a sales or business development role, ideally within media, newsletters, communications tools or advertising
  • Established a proven track record of building a sustained pipeline of leads and with experience of managing these within traditional CRM
  • Developed a network of contacts across multiple sectors across Miami and surrounding areas
  • Demonstrated the ability to think laterally and creatively
  • Demonstrated the ability as a 'self-starter' - to work autonomously, to build relationships, and deliver targets.
  • Had experience in pitching and presenting to clients
  • Demonstrated a passion for digital media, and ideally newsletters; you should be able to clearly articulate the value of this medium and how it can complement or replace existing elements of an organization's communications strategy

Location - within the Miami area
Package - salary, commission & equity (considered after a year's employment TBC)
Employment Type - Full-Time
Minimum Experience - 3+ years
