Lead Grading Crews on Heavy Civil Construction Projects
Banks Construction Company is looking for an experienced, safety-focused Grading Foreman to lead grading crews on heavy civil construction projects throughout the Charleston area. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong field experience, leadership skills, and the ability to keep crews working safely, efficiently, and according to project plans.
As a Grading Foreman, you'll be responsible for leading a grading crew, coordinating daily work in the field, and ensuring project tasks are completed safely, on time, and to specification. You'll work closely with Project Superintendents, crew members, equipment operators, and other team members to help build the foundations for roads, highways, commercial sites, and major infrastructure projects.

About the Grading Division
The Grading Division is part of our Construction Group and plays a key role in preparing and building the foundation for our projects. Our grading crews work on large commercial sites, roadway widening projects, highways, interstates, port-related projects, and other heavy civil construction projects throughout the Lowcountry.
This team helps shape the site and prepare it for the next phase of construction by performing earthwork, grading, drainage support, and other site preparation activities.
What You'll Do
As a Grading Foreman, you'll lead field crews and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and specifications. You may be responsible for:
  • Leading and directing grading crew members in daily field operations
  • Reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Coordinating daily work activities with the Project Superintendent
  • Inspecting work progress, equipment, and jobsites to ensure safety and quality standards are met
  • Directing crew members on the proper procedures to complete work safely, on time, and within budget
  • Helping ensure crews are properly staffed, equipped, and prepared for the work ahead
  • Training crew members on construction methods, equipment operation, safety procedures, and company policies
  • Locating, measuring, and marking site locations, grades, and structure placement as needed
  • Coordinating with project teams, other departments, subcontractors, and technical personnel to resolve issues and keep work moving
  • Monitoring production, identifying challenges, and communicating needs to leadership
  • Recording personnel, production, and operational information on required forms or reports
  • Supporting safety expectations and promoting a strong safety culture within the crew
  • Assisting with personnel feedback, staffing needs, and crew development
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced grading leader who can take ownership of the work, communicate clearly, and lead a crew in a fast-paced field environment. The ideal candidate:
  • Has significant experience in grading, earthwork, site work, or heavy civil construction
  • Has prior experience leading crews or serving in a foreman/lead role
  • Understands construction drawings, plans, grades, and specifications
  • Has strong attention to detail and quality
  • Can stay focused and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Is a self-starter and highly motivated
  • Communicates clearly with crew members, superintendents, project teams, and other trades
  • Takes safety seriously and leads by example
  • Is dependable and committed to showing up prepared each day
  • Can train, coach, and develop crew members
  • Is comfortable working outdoors in active construction environments
  • Has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Experience operating grading equipment, managing grading crews, or working on roadway/heavy civil projects is strongly preferred.
Schedule
This is a field-based leadership position, and hours may vary depending on project needs, weather, and crew schedules. Overtime may be required.
