What is gamification?

A Gamification job involves designing and applying game-like elements to non-gaming environments, such as marketing, education, or employee engagement. Professionals in this field use mechanics like points, badges, leaderboards, and challenges to drive user motivation and behavior. They often work in product development, UX/UI design, or behavioral psychology to enhance user experiences. The goal is to make tasks more engaging and encourage desired actions through fun and interactive elements.

What does a typical day look like for someone working in gamification?

A typical day in a Gamification role often involves collaborating with product managers, UX designers, and developers to conceptualize and refine game-based elements for digital platforms or learning environments. You might analyze user data to assess the effectiveness of current gamification strategies, brainstorm improvements, and prototype new features. Regular meetings to gather feedback and align gamification approaches with broader project goals are common. It's a dynamic role that balances creative ideation with hands-on testing, making each day varied and engaging.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in gamification, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Gamification role, you need strong knowledge of game design principles, user experience, behavioral psychology, and typically a degree in a relevant field such as computer science, design, or psychology. Familiarity with gamification platforms, analytics tools, and basic programming or prototyping software is also valuable. Creativity, collaboration, and strong communication skills set top professionals apart when designing engaging solutions. These skills are crucial for creating effective gamified systems that drive user engagement and achieve business or organizational objectives.

Overview
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager, Consumer Growth & Fan Engagement to help shape the next generation of fan experiences across Sports Illustrated, FanSided, and other owned-and-operated properties within the Minute Media portfolio. This role focuses on premium fan experiences, fan identity, personalization, and audience engagement. Working across Product, Editorial, Audience Development, Growth, Design, Data, Revenue, and Engineering, you will help deepen fan relationships, grow direct audience engagement, and increase the value of known fans across our portfolio.
This is a strategic role at the intersection of sports, media, consumer growth, and AI. You understand how American sports fans engage, and you know how to build products and experiences that encourage them to participate, return, and deepen their connection to our content and communities over time. AI is core to how this role operates, both in the fan-facing experiences you help create and in the agent-driven workflows you use to accelerate discovery, experimentation, and execution.
What You'll Do
  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for fan engagement experiences across our US sports media portfolio, including community, participation, personalization, gamification, and other interactive experiences that deepen fan relationships and drive audience growth, engagement, and revenue.
  • Lead fan identity, audience segmentation, personalization, and registration initiatives that strengthen direct audience relationships and drive engagement, conversion, and long-term audience value.
  • Build and operate a culture of experimentation through A/B testing, rapid prototyping, cohort analysis, and continuous optimization of fan experiences.
  • Leverage AI to create differentiated fan experiences while using AI-native workflows, agents, and automation to accelerate product discovery, experimentation, vendor evaluation, and execution.
  • Partner with Business Development, Revenue, Editorial, Audience Development, and Marketing teams to evaluate and launch strategic partnerships that create differentiated fan experiences and unlock new audience and monetization opportunities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate third-party technologies and vendors (interactive platforms, gaming providers, AI tools, data and identity platforms, and audience technologies), owning build-versus-buy decisions where appropriate.
  • Define success metrics and KPIs, make data-driven decisions, and measure impact from hypothesis through launch, experimentation, and optimization.
  • Translate strategic opportunities into actionable roadmaps, product requirements, experiments, and execution plans that deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Editorial, Audience Development, Growth, Data, Revenue, Marketing, and Engineering teams to successfully launch and scale new consumer experiences.

Requirements
What You Have
  • 5+ years of product management experience building consumer-facing sports products, with experience in sports media, publishing, fantasy sports, betting, fan engagement, or community-driven experiences.
  • Deep knowledge of US sports and a strong understanding of how sports fans discover, engage with, and deepen their connection to teams, athletes, creators, and communities over time.
  • Experience owning products or features that drove measurable growth in engagement, retention, personalization, audience development, monetization, or customer lifetime value.
  • Experience building or scaling community, participation, prediction, loyalty, gamification, or other fan engagement experiences.
  • Hands-on experience building personalization, fan identity, audience segmentation, or first-party data products.
  • Strong experimentation mindset, leveraging data, customer insights, testing, and AI-enabled workflows to accelerate product discovery, decision-making, and execution."
  • Experience driving initiatives independently from concept through launch and optimization in cross-functional environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders across Product, Editorial, Audience Development, Growth, Revenue, Marketing, Design, Data, and Engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and experimentation mindset, leveraging data, customer insights, testing, and AI-enabled workflows to drive product discovery, decision-making, and execution in technical environments.

Nice To Have
  • Experience in fantasy sports, prediction, sports betting, loyalty, or community products.
  • Experience with audience growth, registration, retention, or monetization.
  • Background in sports media, publishing, gaming, or subscription products.
