NorthStar Energy Services is looking for a Document Controller who will be responsible for managing the intake, tracking, revision control, distribution, and retention of project documentation. This role ensures field and project teams have access to the most current approved drawings, specifications, and other controlled documents while maintaining accurate records and a complete audit trail. 


  • Receive, review, and register project documents from clients, engineering partners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Verify document numbers, revisions, issue status, and completeness before releasing documents to internal or field teams.
  • Maintain the master document register, including revision history, issue dates, distribution records, and document status.
  • Ensure superseded drawings and documents are properly identified, archived, and removed or replaced in the field.
  • Distribute current drawings, specifications, vendor data, and other controlled documents to field teams and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain distribution records and confirm receipt of critical document revisions when required.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and physical project files in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Respond to document requests and support project teams with document access and retrieval.
  • Collect and control as-built documentation and assist with project turnover and closeout packages.
  • Support project audits by providing document histories, revision records, and distribution documentation.
  • Establish document registers, filing structures, and distribution processes for new projects.
  • Ensure document control procedures and naming conventions are consistently followed across assigned projects.

  • 2–5 years of document control experience in construction, engineering, or a related project environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with document management or construction platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Build/BIM 360, ProjectWise, Aconex, SharePoint, Egnyte, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience maintaining document registers or large data sets.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu or similar PDF markup tools.
  • Ability to navigate construction drawings and specifications and identify document numbers, revisions, and issue status.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to maintain accuracy under deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting electric power, transmission and distribution, substation, pipeline, industrial, or heavy civil construction.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change management, as-built documentation, and project closeout requirements.
