Job description

Technology Operations Manager

Full-Time | Reports to the President & CIO | Greensboro, NC (Hybrid) | $75,000 $95,000

A technology role inside a 30-year professional services firm not inside an enterprise IT operation.

"We built our first claims platform in the mid-1990s because our clients needed better reporting than anyone in the industry was offering. Thirty years later, that platform is still one of the reasons the biggest names in fuel retail and environmental services choose us. In 2026, I'm looking for a leader to help us honor that legacy of investment while taking it somewhere new."

Nick Haddy, President & CIO

ABOUT PINNACLE

Founded in 1995, Pinnacle Environmental Management Support was one of the first firms in our industry to build a purpose-built platform for enterprise claims management encoding institutional knowledge into software when most of our peers were still passing spreadsheets around.

Three decades later, we're fifty-five people trusted by the largest names in fuel retail, energy, and environmental services. Our competitors regularly tell us they can't match our technology. We take that as both a compliment and a responsibility.

We take our work seriously. We also believe people should enjoy where they work and who they work with. That balance matters here.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Pinnacle's strategy is anchored in three pillars: People, Process, and Platform. Our platform has been a genuine differentiator for thirty years. As technology grows more central to our success from AI-assisted workflows to modern collaboration and reporting tools we continue to invest in extending that advantage.

This role is central to that work. We're hiring someone with the experience, judgment, and discipline to manage our technology partners thoughtfully, keep our systems documented and reliable, and help our team get more from the platforms they use every day.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • Vendor Governance: Own the operating relationships with our managed services partner, software vendors, and application developers. Track contracts, renewals, and performance; compare quotes; escalate issues; and translate vendor updates into clear summaries for leadership.
  • Technology Operations: Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, permissions, licensing, and asset inventory. Maintain visibility into the technology support queue, track recurring issues, and serve as the internal point of escalation for partner-delivered services.
  • Platform Governance: Set usage standards for our communication, collaboration, document management, project tracking, and reporting platforms. Coordinate training, create internal how-to guides, and improve adoption across the company.
  • Technical Project Coordination: Clarify scope and business requirements with stakeholders and vendors. Maintain project plans, track action items, escalate risks, and keep leadership informed without requiring them to chase you.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management: Maintain system maps, vendor directories, license inventories, SOPs, decision logs, and ownership matrices. Reduce dependence on undocumented institutional knowledge across the company.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

The best candidates think in outcomes, not tasks. Here is what we would expect to see in your first 90 days:

  • A total technology department assessment: A written picture of Pinnacle's current technology state systems in use, ownership, condition, gaps, and quick wins grounded in conversations with each department leader.
  • A current-state systems map: A living document of the platforms, integrations, licensing, and data flows across the company. Something Pinnacle can maintain internally going forward.
  • Integration into (and improvement on) our strong strategic technology partner framework: Not a rebuild of the MSP relationship, but an audit of how it's working, where it's excellent, and where it can be strengthened.
  • Working alongside the President/CIO and Fractional CTO on ongoing digital transformation initiatives: Contribute execution discipline to strategic initiatives already in motion from AI adoption to platform modernization.
  • Established operating cadence with the MSP, software vendors, and internal stakeholders: Standing meetings, agendas, action-item tracking, and reporting cadence that leadership can rely on.
  • A first draft of the vendor and license inventory: Contracts, renewal dates, license counts, spend, and utilization the foundation for every optimization that follows.

HOW WE HIRE

Pinnacle hires around five values: Aspire, Navigate, Lead, Build, and Summit. If that language feels like something you'd want to live by, this role will make sense to you.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is technically credible and comfortable with mainstream business productivity, collaboration, and identity and access platforms
  • Has worked with managed services partners or technology vendors and knows how to set expectations and hold them
  • Documents naturally and sees documentation as part of the job, not extra work
  • Takes initiative while staying grounded and practical
  • Drives work through obstacles rather than reporting that work is stuck
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Enjoys being part of a team and contributing to a positive environment

WHO THIS ROLE ISN'T FOR

Pinnacle is not the right fit for everyone, and this role is more specific than most:

  • This is not the role for someone who wants to build their own team of direct reports or run enterprise change advisory boards.
  • This is not the role for someone who wants to specialize deeply in one platform or spend their days at the keyboard.
  • This is not the role for someone who prefers process-for-the-sake-of-process over practical progress.
  • It is the role for someone who is excited by broad ownership across a whole company's technology footprint and who has the discipline to bring order to it.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are not required. They are the kinds of experience we'd love you to highlight if you have them:

  • 3+ years of vendor or managed services partnership management
  • Microsoft, Azure, or comparable cloud-platform certifications
  • Power Platform familiarity (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
  • Experience in small-to-mid-sized businesses or professional services firms

HOW TO APPLY

Submit your resume and a thoughtful cover letter at pinnacleems.com/careers.

In your cover letter, please tell us:

Tell us about a vendor relationship you've owned end-to-end what worked, what didn't, and what you would do differently. If your answer stays at the level of "we had monthly meetings," we probably won't be the right fit.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Salary: $75,000 $95,000, commensurate with experience
  • Paid Time Off & Holiday Pay
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Investment in your continued development through relevant certifications and structured learning

You will have an office at our Greensboro location, with a hybrid schedule built around getting the work done well. We expect in-person attendance for the meetings and functions where it matters.
