Description
This non-supervisory full-time position is responsible for event setup/tear down including AV assistance for various groups. Additionally, Facilities Operations Assistant will perform routine cleaning and custodial work in the Community Facilities Department and surrounding parking area. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood "I SERVE" Core Values.
Examples of Duties
1) Sets up equipment, furnishings or fixtures for banquets, dances, concerts, and all other activities; dismantles and cleans up after events; 2) Assists in setting up all requested media for events, sound system, lighting system, etc.; 3) Keep all audio/visual equipment including Community Facility laptops updated and current, 4) Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and buffs floors and vacuums carpets; 5) Collects trash and disposes of waste; 6) Cleans restrooms and replenishes toilet supplies; 7) Washes windows; 8) Operates mechanical floor machine, buffers and other custodial equipment; 9) Assist in general maintenance of building, such as painting, etc.; 10) Dust office furniture, equipment and other fixtures; 11) Maintain outside walks, driveways, parking lots and grounds; 12) Maintains and organizes all event equipment;
13) Utilizes Community Facilities Software to communicate event details and operations; 14) Assist with answering phone calls and handling walk-in traffic; 15) Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
Valid Texas Driver's License. Certified CPR.
Must have enough education to read and write effectively for this position; must be able to comprehend and speak the English language; a high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus, but is not required. Custodian experience preferred; must be able to interpret cleanser labels and such.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to deal tactfully with the public, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and city employees; strong hospitality skills; Ability to set up and maintain sound equipment and operate soundboard, mixers and 96 channel stage lighting equipment. Care and maintenance of buildings and grounds; basic knowledge of the use and care of hand tools and custodial equipment; experience in use of cleaning equipment and proper procedures in stripping and waxing floors; ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; ability to perform light to heavy lifting of equipment and supplies; Must have a working knowledge of different floor products and types of flooring (e.g. marble, terrazzo, etc.)

Frequent contact with co-workers limited to normal work relationships; contact with the public in performance in duties.
Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various locations. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds often. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms and sweep. Ability to walk over sloped & uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Physical demand for the job are heavy. Exposure to dangerous machinery, electrical lines and various heights. Ability to work at heights of 50 feet to 60 feet. Required to work overtime, night shifts, weekend on-call, and holidays.
