Controller
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, operationally focused Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a fast-paced third-party logistics (3PL) organization. This role is responsible for strengthening financial visibility, overseeing reporting, profitability analysis, cash flow management, claims accounting, carrier payment controls, and financial processes that support operational decision-making and company growth.
The ideal candidate is a strong financial operator who can partner cross-functionally with operations, carrier management, sales, and executive leadership to improve performance, scalability, financial discipline, and overall profitability.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, claims accounting, and carrier payment processes
  • Lead EBITDA analysis and performance reporting by identifying financial trends, operational efficiencies, cost-saving opportunities, margin accuracy improvements, and strategies to improve overall company profitability
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Develop and maintain internal financial controls, accounting procedures, carrier payment controls, and commission accuracy processes
  • Assist executive leadership with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning initiatives, and cash flow management strategies including factoring oversight
  • Monitor financial performance, customer profitability, credit exposure, and operational trends to identify risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Provide recommendations based on financial analysis, profitability reporting, and operational performance metrics
  • Support organizational growth through financial insight, process optimization, and improved reporting visibility
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and required reporting processes
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all financial activities
  • Evaluate and improve internal control systems to minimize financial risk, strengthen reporting accuracy, and increase efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, carrier management, sales, and executive leadership to improve financial accountability and reporting accuracy
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Support process improvements, reporting enhancements, and system implementations within the finance department
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience required
  • Prior experience within logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, or 3PL industry strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems (experience with Business Central strongly preferred).
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
