About Us

The Umbrella Tree Child Development Center is a licensed child development center in Long Beach, California, serving children from six weeks through kindergarten. We are built on six core values — Excellence, Equity, Integrity, Compassion, Belonging, and Accountability — and we hold one standard: every child in our care receives the same quality of environment, engagement, and expertise, regardless of background, ability, or funding source.
The Role

The Director of Curriculum is a leadership role at the heart of what makes The Umbrella Tree's classrooms work. You are responsible for building and sustaining our curriculum framework, developing our teachers, and ensuring that what happens in every classroom reflects our standard — not on paper, but in practice, every day.
You will:
  • Own and continuously refine the center's hybrid developmental curriculum framework across all four classrooms
  • Observe classrooms regularly and provide coaching to Lead Teachers
  • Design and deliver professional development and ongoing staff training
  • Support the onboarding of new teachers and ensure they are trained to our standard before they step into a classroom independently
  • Partner with the CEO on program quality, QSLA participation, and institutional improvement
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in early childhood education, inclusion, and developmental science
  • Support hiring processes by contributing to candidate evaluation at the classroom level
What You Bring

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field
  • California Child Development Permit (Site Supervisor or Program Director level) or equivalent credential
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum in a licensed early childhood setting
  • Experience leading adult learning — professional development, coaching, or staff training
  • Deep knowledge of inclusion and developmental frameworks; comfort serving children across a wide range of abilities and needs
  • Mandated Reporter Training (AB 1432)
  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid (current)
  • TB clearance
  • DOJ/FBI LiveScan fingerprint clearance
  • Health Statement per CCLD
