Description/Duties and Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Events Marketing Assistant in the Arts and Events division of the Economic Development Department. Under the supervision of the Events Coordinator, this position will provide support for the City's event marketing efforts through photography, videography, graphic design, social media content creation, and event coverage.
This position will assist with capturing photo and video content at City events, editing short-form content for social media, creating graphics, organizing digital assets, and supporting a variety of marketing projects.
This position may work up to 25 hours per week and requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Additional hours may be needed during peak seasons.
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Captures high-quality photos and video using cameras, mobile devices, microphones, and related equipment
โ€ข Edits short-form videos, social media reels, and photo content for digital platforms
โ€ข Resizes and adapts existing graphics for social media, digital advertising, print materials, and web use
โ€ข Assists in preparing and scheduling social media content and identifies opportunities to increase community engagement
โ€ข Performs quality control by proofreading and reviewing marketing materials for accuracy, brand consistency, formatting, and visual quality
โ€ข Assists with photography and videography at City events and promotional activities including SENSES Block Party, Celebrate, City Cinemas, Cowboy Festival, Concerts in the Park, Light Up Main Street, Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks, and other special events. Due to operational needs, attendance at Cowboy Festival, Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks, and Light Up Main Street is required.
โ€ข Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with City staff, vendors, performers, and members of the public
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
โ€ข High School diploma or GED equivalent
โ€ข One year of experience creating digital marketing content through graphic design, photography, videography, social media, marketing, communications, or a related field
โ€ข Experience creating digital content for social media platforms is highly desirable
โ€ข Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, Premiere Pro, CapCut, and Lightroom is highly desirable
โ€ข Possession of a valid Class C California driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions may be required
Knowledge and Abilities
โ€ข Knowledge of photography, videography, and digital content creation for social media platforms
โ€ข Ability to edit short-form video content using Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or similar editing software
โ€ข Ability to create and edit graphics using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva
โ€ข Understanding of composition, lighting, and storytelling through photo and video
โ€ข Knowledge of formatting digital assets for social media, web, and print applications
โ€ข Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, Meta Business Suite, and other social media platforms
โ€ข Understanding of branding standards and attention to visual consistency
โ€ข Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff on multiple projects
โ€ข Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced event environment and manage changing priorities
โ€ข Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce work that is both accurate and complete
โ€ข Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage digital files and meet deadlines
โ€ข Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
โ€ข Ability to interact professionally and positively with the public while capturing content at community events

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code ยงยง 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
