Job Description

The Emergency Dispatcher is responsible for answering and processing emergency and non-emergency calls while coordinating fire, security, and emergency response communications in a fast-paced crisis communications center environment. This role requires the ability to multitask, make critical real-time decisions, and maintain professionalism and empathy during high-stress situations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Answer and process emergency calls while simultaneously dispatching and monitoring multiple fire and security radio channels with moderate to high radio traffic volume.

  • Provide approved Pre-Arrival Instructions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Make required and requested emergency notifications accurately and promptly.

  • Work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

  • Support training initiatives and assist with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development as needed.

  • Complete in-house Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training requirements.

  • Maintain excellent attendance and reliability.

  • Deliver professional, empathetic customer service during all client and emergency interactions.

  • Operate effectively under stressful and time-sensitive situations.

  • Hear, interpret, and manage multiple sound sources while accurately documenting information within Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.

  • Make critical real-time decisions to support emergency response operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working as an Emergency Dispatcher in an Emergency Communications Center (ECC), Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), or related Security, Fire Protection, or Emergency Medical Services environment.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience multitasking in a critical or crisis-oriented team environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience performing duties related to emergency dispatch operations and communications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of work experience or military experience.

Education / Experience:

Education and experience typically acquired through basic education such as a High School diploma or GED and typically 1 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., vocational school or Associate degree).
