Job Description:
The EHS Engineer supports the EHS Leads and project team in the safe construction of a project. This position assists the project team in planning, monitoring work activities, and achieving correction of unsafe acts or conditions while working at project site. The role encompasses ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors.
A successful EHS Engineer develops positive professional relationships while working closely with field personnel, all levels of management, and outside agencies during all phases of construction. They must be dedicated to upholding compliance and standards in ever-changing, fast-paced environment while also navigating broad spectrum of skill levels, seniority, and authority levels. The EHS Engineer assists the project management team in developing and executing site-specific EHS program and activities.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct safety orientation and training programs at the project level.
  • Document, track, and correct or reinforce EHS violations/initiatives, unsafe/safe conditions, unsafe/safe behaviors, etc.
  • Conduct work area EHS audits.
  • Conduct project's leading and trailing indicator data/document collection.
  • Conduct or assist with major incident investigation, documentation, and analysis.
  • Coordinate OSHA reporting and posting requirements.
  • Review Safety Submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors.
  • Monitor and review subcontractor's work plans and activities for EHS concerns.
  • Accompany safety, health, owner, insurance, and OSHA personnel on work-site tours.
  • Maintain the project site Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and assist the Project Manager with the management of the EHS budget allocated for project.
  • Assist with onsite injury management and case management
  • Develop and monitor Return to Work and Modified duty assignments and paperwork.
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of project EHS recognition/reward programs.
  • Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1- 4 years of EHS experience within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, 29 CFR 1926.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse organization of employees.
  • Action oriented.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office software.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • EHS or related technical undergraduate degree preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed on an active construction site. Role requires standing or walking for long periods of time. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing. May occasionally move equipment up to 50 lbs.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • All Fortis positions require some level of driving.
