Overview
As a Microsoft Metro Construction Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will support the Microsoft project management team in monitoring the safe construction and delivery of complex datacenter projects by helping teams identify, assess, and control environmental, health, and safety risks. You will partner with design, engineering, construction, contractors, vendors, and operations teams to implement Microsoft EHS policies, procedures, and best practices to strengthen safety performance and support successful project execution.

As a CO+I Metro Construction EHS Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform.

This position will support projects in LaPorte, Indiana
Relocation assistance will be provided. Candidates selected for this role are expected to relocate and live within 50 miles of the designated work location.
Responsibilities
• Educate and promote the Microsoft Environmental Health and Safety policies, industry best practices, and local construction EHS regulations across assigned construction projects.
• Participate in and support construction risk assessments, jobsite inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards, evaluate controls, and drive practical mitigation actions.
• Provide support and oversight for high-risk construction activities, including electrical safety, control of hazardous energy, working at heights, confined space entry, lifting operations, excavation activities, mobile equipment, hazardous materials, waste management, and permit-to-work processes.
• Partners with construction managers, project teams, general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and site stakeholders to improve safety performance, clarify expectations, and resolve Environmental Health and Safety issues.
• Set expectations with consultants and contractors for incident intake and investigation, support root cause analysis, and track corrective and preventive actions to timely closure.
• Track, analyze, and communicate Environmental Health and Safety performance metrics, trends, scorecards, and dashboards to support data-driven decisions and leadership accountability.
• Coordinate and deliver Environmental Health and Safety communications, training, and awareness activities to support consistent understanding of Microsoft requirements, construction safety expectations, and Industry best practices.
• Support Environmental Health and Safety management system implementation, documentation, recordkeeping, reporting, and regulatory notifications across assigned construction projects.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives within assigned construction programs and contribute recommendations that strengthen processes, controls, and risk mitigation practices across the broader Environmental Health and Safety framework.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications-
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Safety and Health Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, related field AND 4+ years experience in environmental health and safety worldwide Regulations OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications-
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST) or other recognized industry professional certification.
• Experience leading safety program for large-scale construction, industrial, datacenter, energy, infrastructure, or mission critical projects.
• Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and cross-functional project teams to improve safety performance at all levels.
• Experience developing, implementing, or improving construction Environmental Health and Safety programs, procedures, standards, and management systems.
• Experience using safety metrics, dashboards, inspections, audits, and incident data to identify trends and support corrective actions.
• Experience operating in a multinational or geographically distributed organization.

Environmental Health & Safety IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $125,000 - $206,400 per year.
