Job description

We are seeking a Senior Dell EMC Mainframe Storage Engineer with expertise in Mainframe Enablers (MFE) and Geographically Dispersed Disaster Restart (GDDR) to support a highly available enterprise mainframe storage environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience troubleshooting GDDR automation, SRDF replication, and disaster recovery processes within mission-critical production environments.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide production support for Dell EMC Mainframe Enablers (MFE) and GDDR environments.
  • Troubleshoot GDDR automation failures, restart issues, and recovery scenarios.
  • Support SRDF/S and SRDF/A replication, AutoSwap, and consistency group operations.
  • Perform manual recovery and resynchronization when automated recovery processes fail.
  • Diagnose replication failures, interrupted scripts, and consistency group issues.
  • Coordinate array-side recovery activities with host-side operations.
  • Determine when replication can be safely resumed following outages or failures.
  • Participate in Sev 1 and Sev 2 production incident response and technical bridge calls.
  • Analyze logs, command outputs, configurations, and system diagnostics to identify root causes.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, recovery procedures, and runbooks.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and vendor support teams to resolve complex storage issues.
  • Assist with technical escalations by documenting findings and coordinating with vendor support when required.
Required Qualifications
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Dell EMC Mainframe Enablers (MFE).
  • Strong expertise with Dell EMC GDDR/GDR, preferably GDDR 6.x.
  • Experience configuring and supporting GDDR automation, scripts, overrides, and recovery procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of SRDF/S, SRDF/A, AutoSwap, and consistency group management.
  • Experience troubleshooting GDDR automation failures, interrupted replication, and manual recovery scenarios.
  • Proficiency with zDP and Symmetrix command-line utilities.
  • Strong understanding of mainframe storage operations, FICON, and Fibre Channel technologies.
  • Experience handling replication drops, resynchronization, full-push recovery, and device cleanup.
  • Ability to coordinate host-side and array-side recovery activities.
  • Experience supporting enterprise production environments with high availability requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting VMAX 950F and PowerMax 8500 storage platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise disaster recovery and replication solutions.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical production environments.
On-Call & Support Expectations
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for critical production incidents.
  • Provide primary and backup support for Sev 1 and Sev 2 incidents.
  • Respond remotely to production outages and participate in live technical bridge calls.
  • Review logs, configurations, command outputs, and operational documentation during incident resolution.
  • Maintain support documentation, known issues, recovery procedures, and escalation paths.
  • Work with vendor support teams for product-related issues while providing technical analysis, issue isolation, and recovery guidance.
