Job description

Job Overview:

Years ago, the coffee industry was revolutionized with the launch of the Keurig brewing system, allowing consumers to brew one cup of coffee on demand. At Keurig, the Coffee Processing team owns engineering and process work from the moment green coffee enters a site to post processing: green cleaning, blending, roasting, degas, grinding, and flavoring. Our team owns risk and scale-up recommendations on programs that span from innovation support to quality improvements to value delivery, as well as owning the value delivery pipeline for coffee. We are a team of scientists and engineers dedicated to robust learning plans, technical assessments, and rigorous data analysis, with a strong understanding of consumer and business impacts.
This individual will own and coordinate cross-functional, holistic learning plans across formulation, sensory, packaging, quality, capital management, and manufacturing, and will be directly responsible for processing assessment at multiple scales (modeling, benchtop, pilot, and scale-up) as well as some test method development. Strong critical thinking and statistical analysis are required, as well as business case development. Excellent program management skills are critical to the success of this role. Fundamental research skills (literature search, basic experimentation) and a working knowledge of applicable physics (thermodynamics, etc) is required; learning through manufacturing-scale trials and partnership with operational teams is also needed.
In addition, this role will support reformulation work, including executing lab roasting and sample creation, carrying out experiments and data collection, creating documentation and specification updates, and hosting internal tastings for reformulations.

Total Rewards:
  • Salary range: $70,500 - $100,000
  • Actual placement within the compensation range may vary depending on experience, skills, and other factors

Requirements:
  • Passion for the coffee industry! Interested in looking at coffee from a scientific perspective: formulation and sensory interplay, physics and chemistry, and manufacturing.
  • B.S./MS in food science / engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience
  • Knowledge and experience in coffee processing with specific experience in the food industry (especially in coffee beverages) required, including practical experience across green coffee cleaning, roasting, degas, grinding, and flavoring
  • -Demonstrated statistical capability (including Design of Experiments - Green Belt/Black Belt preferred)
  • Excellent communication and program management skills
  • Hands-on experience with process development, startup and commissioning
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing practices, including GMP
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to be punctual
  • Positive attitude with ability to work a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Excellent MS Office skills
