This position will be with Rothfos, the leading supplier of commercial green coffee to roasters across North America. Founded in 1991, Rothfos brings more than three decades of experience to the green coffee market.

Job Purpose:

To support the buying and selling of green coffee on behalf of the company by contributing to effective trading operations and commercial execution. As a member of the trading team, you will assist in executing local trading and marketing strategies, logistics management, customer relationship management, and operational excellence, while building the knowledge and skills required to grow into a Trader role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the trading team in the purchase and sale of green coffee and ensure contracts are accurately entered into the system within 24 hours of business confirmation.
  • Assist in monitoring coffee market developments, supply and demand fundamentals, and market trends to support trading decisions.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers and contribute to gathering market intelligence from origin countries.
  • Support sourcing activities for assigned coffee origins under the guidance of senior traders.
  • Assist in monitoring physical long and short positions to help ensure timely deliveries and compliance with quality specifications.
  • Review daily position, shipment, and risk reports, escalating potential delays, discrepancies, or risks to the trading team.
  • Assist in maintaining unshipped and sales match reports, coordinating with the inbound and outbound logistics teams on contract allocations and destinations.
  • Participate in daily cupping sessions with the Quality Control team to develop coffee evaluation skills and support quality assurance activities.
  • Support business development initiatives by identifying prospective customers, participating in trade events, and assisting with customer outreach activities.
  • Maintain regular communication with existing, dormant, and prospective customers to strengthen commercial relationships.
  • Develop knowledge of coffee futures, market risk management, and hedging principles to support trading activities.
  • Assist senior traders in analyzing supply, demand, and market movements to identify commercial opportunities and manage market exposure.
  • Build knowledge of green coffee grading, cupping, quality specifications, and claims management.
  • Assist in managing spot inventory and preparing coffee offering lists for customers.
  • Prepare regular market updates and reports for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor customer accounts receivable and follow up internally on outstanding balances where required.
  • Coordinate closely with the logistics team to monitor shipments, deliveries, and documentation, helping resolve operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry events, trade shows, supplier meetings, and customer visits alongside senior team members.
  • Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, customer opportunities, market trends, and competitor activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and internal procedures.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects assigned to support the Trading Department.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

This position requires analytical and technical skills, an understanding of coffee quality, Futures/Hedge knowledge, communication skills in order to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain, logistics, business administration, or finance management required.
  • 3+ years commercial experience in coffee preferred (with focus on green coffee, quality, sensory, grading, future/option trading).
  • Experience with commodities is preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Basic understanding of commodity markets and futures trading is desirable; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret market data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP or trading systems is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional and multicultural teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for supplier visits, customer meetings, and industry events, as required.
  • Interest in developing knowledge of green coffee grading, cupping, quality evaluation, and market risk management through on-the-job training.
  • Foreign Language (Spanish) is a plus.
