Position OverviewThe Summer Camp Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of camp and serves as the on-site leader throughout the summer season. This role requires a hands-on, dependable individual who can take ownership of camp operations while fostering a positive, calm, and family-oriented environment for campers and staff. While leadership will provide programming support and guidance, the Camp Director will be the primary decision-maker on site and accountable for ensuring camp runs smoothly, responsibly, and safely.
Key Responsibilities- Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise camp counselors and support staff
- Provide daily leadership and oversight of all camp operations
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for staff, campers, and families
- Address and resolve issues as they arise with sound judgment and professionalism
- Communicate clearly and consistently with leadership regarding camp operations, staffing, and concerns
- Ensure a safe, structured, and supportive environment for all campers
- Set and maintain a respectful, family-oriented tone for staff and campers
- Support individuals with special needs, including managing behaviors in a compassionate and appropriate manner
Qualifications and Skills- Strong leadership, organization, and decision-making abilities
- Comfortable supervising staff, providing direction, and holding team members accountable
- Proactive, responsible, and able to work independently
- Calm under pressure and adaptable when plans change
- Excellent communication skills and strong follow-through
- Prior experience working with individuals with special needs required
- Previous camp leadership or staff management experience strongly preferred
Additional InformationThis is a summer-only position; however, the hiring process will begin well in advance to ensure the right fit and allow for thoughtful preparation. Housing and meals are provided for the duration of camp.
