Job description

Company
Orenda is on a mission to make the grid more efficient with batteries and software. We build and operate energy storage projects in dense urban environments to bridge the gap between renewables and electricity consumption.
Orenda's business systems are the operational backbone of the company - the platforms and data flows that turn project development, construction, and asset operations into a coordinated, scalable process. This role is responsible for designing and building that backbone.
We are a dynamic, NYC-based startup at the forefront of a new industry. We are seeking highly motivated and incredibly talented individuals who wish to contribute to our important mission.
Role
Orenda is looking to hire a Business Systems Engineer to serve as the thought leader and technical owner of the business systems that run the company. You will own a portfolio of platforms at every stage of maturity - from existing deployments to greenfield builds to vendor-led implementations - and take on additional systems as Orenda grows.
This role is for someone who thinks in data models and processes first, writes code when it matters, and treats low-code platforms as serious engineering tools. You'll work across every team in the company - development, construction, operations, finance - translating how the business works into systems that scale.
What You'll Do
  • Source-of-Truth Database: Design, build, and own Orenda's distributed energy resource (DER) project source-of-truth database from the ground up.
  • Salesforce & Construction Management: Take ownership of Orenda's existing Salesforce and construction management deployments. Build out new features and continuously improve them as the business evolves.
  • ERP Implementation: Serve as the internal technical lead for Orenda's ERP implementation, partnering with a third-party firm to scope, oversee, and directly contribute to the buildout. Own the system end-to-end once live.
  • Integrations: Build and maintain the integrations between our systems, so data stays consistent and error free. Use low code applications or custom scripting.
  • Process & Data Design: Partner with business stakeholders to map how Orenda actually works and translate it into the data models and processes that run the company - making decisions that hold up as we grow from tens to hundreds of projects.
  • AI-Driven Efficiency: Identify and prototype opportunities to apply AI within Orenda's business systems - automating routine work and boosting team efficiency.
  • Documentation & Enablement: Maintain clear documentation of everything you build, so the business can trust the systems and new hires can ramp quickly.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years building on business-critical platforms (Salesforce, ERP systems, or comparable low-code applications), with hands-on ownership of configuration, data models, and integrations
  • 2+ years as a primary business system[s] owner, accountable for roadmap, stakeholder communication, design decisions, and day-to-day operations
  • Hands-on Salesforce administration and development experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing relational data models from scratch and deploying in production
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, integrations, and automation
  • Excellent communication skills: comfortable partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders, enforcing requirements clarity, and documenting decisions
  • Strong process-oriented mindset: instinctively thinks about scalability and edge cases when designing systems
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations between business systems (APIs, webhooks, ETL/ELT, iPaaS tools)
  • Bias toward scalable, repeatable design over one-off fixes
  • Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading an ERP implementation alongside a third-party firm
  • Hands-on experience applying AI/LLMs inside business systems or operational workflows
  • Familiarity with construction management platforms
  • Background in energy, real estate development, construction, or another asset-intensive industry
Work Environment
This is a full time, in-office position requiring work from our headquarters (Brooklyn, NY) five days a week.
Compensation
Orenda offers a competitive compensation package designed to attract and retain top talent.
Base Salary: The anticipated base salary range for this full-time position in New York City is $100,000 - $175,000 per year. The final base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
Bonus: In addition to the base salary, this role is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.
Benefits: Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with 3% Employer Match
  • LifeTime Fitness corporate membership
  • Monthly commuter stipend
  • Learning and education stipend
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) policy
