Job description

Job Summary:
Orenda, Inc. is a dynamic startup focused on making the grid more efficient through energy storage and software solutions. They are seeking a Business Systems Engineer to design and build the operational backbone of the company, ensuring the coordination and scalability of business systems across various teams.
Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and own Orenda's distributed energy resource (DER) project source-of-truth database from the ground up.
• Take ownership of Orenda's existing Salesforce and construction management deployments. Build out new features and continuously improve them as the business evolves.
• Serve as the internal technical lead for Orenda's ERP implementation, partnering with a third-party firm to scope, oversee, and directly contribute to the buildout. Own the system end-to-end once live.
• Build and maintain the integrations between our systems, so data stays consistent and error free. Use low code applications or custom scripting.
• Partner with business stakeholders to map how Orenda actually works and translate it into the data models and processes that run the company — making decisions that hold up as we grow from tens to hundreds of projects.
• Identify and prototype opportunities to apply AI within Orenda's business systems — automating routine work and boosting team efficiency.
• Maintain clear documentation of everything you build, so the business can trust the systems and new hires can ramp quickly.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 4+ years building on business-critical platforms (Salesforce, ERP systems, or comparable low-code applications), with hands-on ownership of configuration, data models, and integrations
• 2+ years as a primary business system[s] owner, accountable for roadmap, stakeholder communication, design decisions, and day-to-day operations
• Hands-on Salesforce administration and development experience
• Demonstrated experience designing relational data models from scratch and deploying in production
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, integrations, and automation
• Excellent communication skills: comfortable partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders, enforcing requirements clarity, and documenting decisions
• Strong process-oriented mindset: instinctively thinks about scalability and edge cases when designing systems
• Experience building and maintaining integrations between business systems (APIs, webhooks, ETL/ELT, iPaaS tools)
• Bias toward scalable, repeatable design over one-off fixes
• Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor
Preferred:
• Experience leading an ERP implementation alongside a third-party firm
• Hands-on experience applying AI/LLMs inside business systems or operational workflows
• Familiarity with construction management platforms
• Background in energy, real estate development, construction, or another asset-intensive industry
Company:
Renewable energy technology company developing and operating energy storage assets in the United States. Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in New York, USA, with a team of 11-50 employees. The company is currently Early Stage.
