Job Summary: Partner with the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager to ensure efficient operations of the branch. Act as first level supervisor, assisting all Tellers with job-related questions and coordination of all sales-related actions. Ensure teller staff is operating in compliance with Bank policies and procedures. Coach and mentor Teller staff in building relationships through referrals and cross-selling Bank products and services.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. As first level supervisor, assist all staff with any job-related questions, ensuring staff is operating in compliance with Bank policies and procedures. Partner with Assistant Manager and Branch Manager, and assume authority in their absence, to ensure daily branch operations are being conducted in a responsible and sound manner, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines
    1. Monitor and approve customer transactions, manage the teller area, schedule and staff employees appropriately, complete daily proofing of all branch-related areas, review daily reports of customers activity and complete any paperwork as required for Compliance and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) purposes
    2. Ensure dual control procedures are enforced at all times, including proper oversite of branch cash, vault and teller cash management, and internal and external shipment of cash
    3. Monitor procedures involving non-deposit products, such as wealth management and retirement planning investments, to ensure compliance within these areas
    4. Complete periodic internal branch audits
    5. Ensure all branch security procedures are being followed appropriately and effectively, including daily branch opening and closing procedures
    6. Ensure compliance with all relevant Bank policies and procedures
  2. Maintain a working knowledge of all products and services to assist in answering questions from staff and customers
    1. Train and develop staff toward procedural compliance, goal achievement and exceptional customer service
  3. Coach and mentor staff in building relationships through referrals and cross-selling Bank products and services. Clearly communicate expectations of job performance and hold staff accountable for performing against expectations and goals
    1. Actively participate in performance management process for staff, completing performance evaluations and proactively addressing performance issues
    2. In partnership with Human Resources, manage the hiring, training and retention of staff
  4. Cross train in all positions within branch and perform any operations duties, as needed, during peak periods or to maintain coverage
  5. Lead by example by modeling appropriate sales techniques to staff.
    1. Consistently cross-sell and refer bank products and services to contribute to branch sales goals, including deposit growth, loan growth, fee income growth and investment growth.
    2. Execute on sales opportunities by making product suggestions based on customer needs and referring to the appropriate branch or external representative (deposits, loans, investments, debit cards, and merchant Services OTM)
    3. Assist in customer outreach by managing, assigning and conducting outbound phone calls, to educate and inform customers about additional products and services available to them.
  6. Proactively strive to retain and grow the current customer base by providing efficient daily operations of the branch and exceptional customer service
  7. Maintain clear and open communication between branch management and staff, actively listen to staff when questions are raised, and cascade important information both up to management and down to staff members in a timely manner
  8. Promote Northfield Bank in the communities we serve, through involvement in community-based organizations and participating in community events and company-sponsored events
  9. Demonstrate professionalism at all times by maintaining a positive and respectful demeanor even during challenging situations
    1. Professional work attire must be worn at all times, following our HR manual guidelines
    2. Maintain a satisfactory level of attendance, which includes keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum, arriving to work on time on scheduled workdays, and remaining on duty during the entire scheduled work period.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-year college degree or 2+ years banking experience, including supervisory experience
  • Proficient with all Teller-related functions, including cross-selling bank products (1+ yearsโ€™ experience required. 2+ yearsโ€™ experience preferred.)
  • Good interpersonal and problem solving skills (1+ yearsโ€™ experience required. 2+ yearsโ€™ experience preferred.)
  • Good computer skills (1+ yearsโ€™ experience required. 2+ yearsโ€™ experience preferred.)
  • Ability to multi-task effectively (1+ yearsโ€™ experience required. 2+ yearsโ€™ experience preferred.)
  • Supervision of staff (1+ yearsโ€™ experience required. 2+ yearsโ€™ experience preferred.)
  • Operating an Adding Machine required
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift and transfer coin bag (approximately 30 lbs.)
