What You’ll Be Doing

As an Assistant Superintendent at our Willow Grove project, located in Reedley, CA, with Emmerson Construction, you will be primarily responsible for scheduling and managing all aspects of the onsite and offsite construction processes on multi-family projects.

Additionally, your tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting the Superintendent with construction site supervision by walking the project, with authority to direct the Foreman and tradespersons when needed
  • Performing inspections prior to formal inspections occurring, verifying the work is up to code and Emmerson standards, then calling in and walking inspections with Superintendent and Inspector
  • Collecting all Subcontractor Safety Meeting paperwork (Tailgate Meetings), maintaining reports for reference during OSHA inspections, and reporting to Superintendent if subcontractors are not compliance
  • Walking units to check for quality and cleanliness, creating punch lists, and correcting items that do not meet appropriate standards
  • Overseeing safe operations of construction site, spotting safety violations, writing safety violations, and correcting them immediately
  • Completing Emmerson Daily Reports online and sending in daily manpower counts
  • Working with the Superintendent on all 6-week look ahead schedules and gaining knowledge of time requirements for each step in the construction process and how to coordinate and organize trades that are working simultaneously on the jobsite
  • Attending all meetings pertaining to the job, taking meeting minutes, and emailing meeting minutes out to the appropriate trade persons
  • Knowing how to find submittals and read scopes, ensuring updated scopes and submittals are printed and organized
  • Enforcing trade contracts, reading and interpreting scopes of work, and enforcing them on site
  • Recognizing how and when to draft RFIs and sending to the Project Manager for review
  • Creating red lines on plans with all changes and keeping the red line set updated in real time
  • Filling out accident reports, SWPPP reports with the ability to spot SWPPP violations and correct the violations in a timely manner
  • Maintaining a phone list of all trade foremen on the job and keeping the most up-to-date list posted
  • Controlling the start-up and wrap-up of site facilities daily
  • Maintaining supplies, tools, scheduling of appropriate number of toilets/washing stations, fire extinguishers in place, lighting in place, spider boxes spread, fuel for generators (if required), trash company delivery and pick-up, and wash out stations
  • Performing site control and exercising the ability to ensure that the subcontractors and visitors have proper PPEs on at all times, and maintaining site sign-in sheets
  • Recognizing OSHA requirements and exercising authority to remove anyone not confirming to OSHA requirements from the site

What You’ll Need to Perform the Role

You’ll use the following to be successful in this role:

  • 2 years of experience in the multi-family construction industry; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been attained
  • Working knowledge of Type-V construction methods and materials, relative to UBC, NEC, UPC, and NFPA codes and regulations
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project)
  • Proficiency reading civil plans, soils reports, wet and dry utility plans

You’ll also need the following attributes:

  • Keen attention to detail with focused adherence to strict deadlines and procedures
  • Sound problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment
  • High level of integrity and dependability, including handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Teamwork mindset and temperament to work effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Effective ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Genuine desire to work in real estate development affordable housing industry
  • Personal accountability and enthusiasm for achieving company goals

Hiring Range

$28.85 to $33.65 per hour, depending on qualifications.

The pay range for this position starts as listed in the job posting but may change based on education and experience. Final compensation is determined by various factors, such as education, training, experience, work location, required travel (if any), and external market conditions. In addition to salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k), paid time off including a generous holiday schedule.
