Job Description

Job Summary:

Assists therapists in their ability to provide therapy treatment and helps ensure that the clinic is organized, safe, and well maintained. Implements ABA process of care including data collection, intervention, and outcome measurement with children and families.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain a paraprofessional license through the Illinois Department of Education. This license may be waived by the Director if the employee holds a teaching license, substitute teaching license, or other approved certification.
  • Participates in required supervision meetings for first six months in role and as needed per discretion of supervisor.
  • Assist Blue Bird Day therapists, staff, and clients while Blue Bird Day is in session Monday-Friday.
  • Monitors and supervises rest time and afterschool club.
  • Completes assigned lesson prep tasks
  • Assists with daily data collection.
  • Assist with meal prep and clean up for lunch time and snack.
  • Assists in therapy room and lesson preparation under direction of the Therapy Case Manager.
  • Assists clients with toileting and rest time as needed.
  • Ensure assigned zones are clean and organized.
  • Reports to Therapy Case Manager, Therapeutic Assistant Department Lead, and Behavior Therapy Leads for daily tasks.
  • Participates in all required company orientation, professional development days, and ongoing trainings as required.
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings, department meetings, and as needed team meetings.
  • Possible travel to client home sessions as needed.
  • Maintains a caseload of therapy groups, individual therapy sessions as assigned by scheduling department and Behavior therapy lead team.
  • Completes daily treatment notes, daily data input and analysis, and other documentation as needed within the required time frame.
  • Implements Blue Bird Day curriculum and theories of practice models supporting Blue Bird Day's therapeutic model.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with clients and families by providing parent education, home programs, and parent support as needed under supervision of BCBA.
  • Collaborates with the BCBA assigned to each of their clients to complete supervision as required.
  • Collaborates with scheduling team to manage caseload requirements.
  • Creates visual schedules, social stories, and client programs to help support therapy goals.
  • Assists in additional tasks as needed.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent college credit (60 credits) required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Blue Bird Day as therapeutic assistant preferred
  • Completion of 40-hour training of ASD and behavioral related subjects/evidence-based techniques (must be completed prior to first day)
  • Experience working with children or clients with special needs required
  • Experience working with children with autism preferred
  • Active BACB certification preferred

Working Environment and Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The working environment may at times be busy with small groups of children and individual sessions with children while other clients/therapists are present.

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs, including but not limited to lifting children, therapy equipment etc.
  • Ability to walk and/or run if needed to keep clients safe.
  • Ability to implement behavior management techniques, based on training provided by the company.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to prepare and perform required therapy tasks.
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, desktop, and ipad to complete documentation required for funders.
