Description:

Technical Writer to work with our aviation communications team. You will apply your diverse skills to the development of high-quality, comprehensive, and comprehensible customer documentation for complex Communications and/or Avionics test-equipment solutions.

Working remotely, your responsibilities are to:

•Translate complex engineering data on hardware and software components into customer documentation that describes the Operation and Maintenance of test equipment solutions, including command descriptions for programming remote operation of these solutions.

•Actively and professionally engage with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and timelines, gather appropriate research for content you will write, and effectively manage draft reviews and final approvals.

•Follow defined procedures and style guidelines to produce and deliver documentation, including using established Adobe FrameMaker-based templates.

•Gather and/or create graphics needed for documentation, including accessing software applications to obtain screen images.

•Ensure that source files, review drafts, and final deliverables are properly managed and accessible to stakeholders at all stages of development and publication cycles.

•Coordinate with various contacts to ensure new and updated documentation is available to customers via defined channels (i.e., online or CD).

Top Skills:

1. Technical Writing (Radio Test Equipment/Communications) 3+ years

2. Experience with writing Operations and Maintenance Manuals (theory of operation, knowing questions to ask, circuit drawings for electrical panels, what kind of diagrams are needed?)

3. Experience with some sort of document processor (Adobe Framemaker 14 is ideal, but not required)

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

•Researching, writing, and publishing customer documentation suites comprised of Operation, Maintenance, and Programming manuals for Communications and/or Avionics test-equipment solutions.

•Communicating via Microsoft Teams (or similar solution) to engage with and establish effective, professional rapport with remote subject matter experts and other stakeholders.

•Working in a fast-paced environment, while effectively addressing shifting requirements and timelines when they occur.

•Effectively managing multiple documentation projects simultaneously.

•Adobe FrameMaker 14 (Unstructured) or later, including publishing to PDF and HTML.

•Vector and image-editing software; for example, CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PhotoShop, Snagit, Microsoft Visio, etc.

•Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree

Important: Ability to travel occasionally to Wichita and/or Lenexa, Kansas, US, required.

Helpful Experience:

oAgile, SharePoint content management systems

oIssue tracking software; for example, JIRA

Experience Level:

Intermediate Level (3+years)
