About Cyclyx

Cyclyx International, LLC, is leading the development of a comprehensive set of innovations focused on addressing the world's plastic waste problem with the ultimate goal of increasing the recyclability of waste plastics from 10% to 90%. Cyclyx has developed the ability to assess waste plastics by their chemical properties vs object identification and then using its algorithms to make custom blended feedstock for various mechanical and chemical recyclers specifications providing new recycling options that have not traditionally existed.


To scale the technology, Cyclyx has also developed a unique plastic processing facility called the Cyclyx Circularity Center (CCC) to process the waste plastics with new methodologies and has also developed a series of landfill deferral programs to divert waste plastics away from the landfill. The innovations Cyclyx has developed provide a disruptive platform for the existing recycling industry and we are looking for highly motivated, creative, and resourceful leaders to join our mission. Cyclyx International, LLC, is a joint venture formed in January 2021 whose current members include Agilyx ASA, ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell.


Job Summary

Reporting the Cyclyx, Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Controller will provide leadership and coordination of company day-to-day financial activities as well as senior level accounting support to critical accounting areas within the organization using specific systems such as NetSuite (ERP), etc. This role will be responsible for preparing, publishing, and communicating corporate financial statements, forecasts, and analyses regularly and as needed.


This role will manage and oversee the Accounting Department and all corporate accounting functions, such as overseeing and managing the fixed asset recordkeeping, expense entries, corporate accounting, prepares journal entries and reconciliations for the month-end general ledger close. The Corporate Controller ensures that company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable regulations and laws. Additionally, this position will oversee and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, as well as assist team members as needed to ensure that service delivery performance targets are met.


By understanding the current vision of Cyclyx and developing the department strategy, the Corporate Controller will be responsible for ensuring all key partnerships are aligned and collaborating to successfully meet/exceed the organizational goals. This position is expected to collaborate with the senior leadership team in setting accounting priorities, support the operations of the business to achieve profitability through innovative, day-to-day operations. This position will provide relevant support as needed to ensure that critical business projects remain on track and the business continues toward sustainable growth and the development of real-time solutions for the future of a new circularity recycling industry.


A key requirement for this position is to Interact with and support the management team across the organization to provide information, explanations, and counsel on financial matters. Though not required, it is preferred to have substantial and relative experience in the waste or recycling industry, ideally in the plastic recycling arena, and a track-record of building and scaling new technologies into operational businesses organizations with entrepreneurial experience in startups.


Position Requirements

Financials Preparation and Management

  • Prepare monthly corporate financial statements and reports to management and Board
  • Manage the annual external audit and prepare financial statements including footnotes
  • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts
  • Ensure account reconciliations are prepared for all accounts on a periodic basis
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop business plans
  • Prepare financial analyses for contract negotiations and product investment decisions
  • Oversee the implementation of corporate financial and budget policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements including all required tax returns
  • Manage the corporate ERP system and continue to drive necessary enhancements and improvements
  • Represent the company externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, and the public as needed

Accounting Department Management

  • Oversee daily operation of the Accounting Department
  • Manage Accounts Payable and Payroll
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results
  • Document and maintain accounting activity policies and detailed operating procedures

Preparation & Planning

  • Establish and implement Accounting departmental goals and objectives
  • Support Supply Chain personnel in costing of the parent financial system
  • Support Engineering in forecasting product costing for each system design, to ensure that target product costs are met
  • Provide financial analyses and participate as needed in internal senior management staff discussions to assist with operational and business decisions

Personnel Management

  • Show excellent judgment regarding approved hiring, and in selecting and coordinating the work of outside contract resources
  • Provide leadership and motivate teams to produce high-quality materials within deadlines to accomplish the department's goals and objectives
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Accounting Dept. staff

Self-direction

  • Able to produce high-quality, professional deliverables within agreed timeframes
  • Able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Able to effectively participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Quick, hands-on learner who works easily with individuals at every level within the organization

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Finance or Accounting, or similar degree (comparable work experience would be considered to meet the requirements of the position)
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in corporate Finance or Accounting, with 5 years as the Controller of a technology company
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required
  • Proven success in adding appropriate levels of structure and capability in a rapidly scaling and growing company
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost-control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Hands-on knowledge of ERP systems. Specific knowledge of SAP-By-Design a plus.
  • In-depth, working knowledge of federal and state financial regulations that apply to businesses and to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and laws
  • Analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting
  • Expert-level Excel skills
  • Experience coordinating investor due diligence

Position Mechanics

Reports To: CFO, Cyclyx

Type: Salaried, exempt; Full time

Regular Office Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm, plus occasional evening and weekend for travel or as needed to meet position requirements

Staff: 3-5 direct reports

Location: Houston, TX is preferred, Remote maybe possible

Work Environment: Professional office and/or remote office

Travel: Up to 25% travel. Travel requirements vary and may be greater or less than 50% as needed to meet the demands of the position.


Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status.
