Salary Range: $56,600-$84,900

 

*This role is exclusively on-site, requiring daily commutes to the office. Therefore, candidates must reside in the Detroit/Metro-Detroit area before employment*

Our mission is to return the city's blighted and vacant properties to productive use. We utilize a variety of Sales programs to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to Detroiters. Plus, we take our commitment to revitalization one step further with our Compliance and Nuisance Abatement programs, requiring renovation and occupancy to improve neighborhoods, eliminate blight, and combat real estate speculation. The Detroit Land Bank Authority works directly with individual buyers, as well as Community Partner organizations and developers for projects big and small.

 The Strategic Programs Project Manager is responsible for developing and supporting the short and long-term strategic initiatives, disposition strategies, and pilots of the DLBA (Detroit Land Bank Authority) to shape overall program direction and resolution of issues. Employees in this role with be responsible for researching and identifying grant opportunities to support the organizations’ special projects. Individuals in this role will oversee and implement the execution of the organization’s strategic planning process, including aligning project activities with organizational priorities and resources. Tracking and communicating progress against project timelines and any information and data resulting from engagement, research, or project development is an important component of role. Individuals in this role will work closely with DLBA departmental leadership and organizational partners to support broader initiatives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the end-to-end process for the five (5) year strategic planning process, including: community engagement and outreach, tracking engagement data, leading focus groups, conducting research, advancing strategic pilots, identifying best practices, and identifying funding to support program development.
  • Co-facilitate collaborative working groups aligned to key strategic priorities.
  • Network, build, and strengthen organizational relationships to support organizational improvement.
  • Lead and/or attend community engagement activities, such as block club meetings, City Council meetings, community events, etc.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of strategic projects and pilot initiatives supporting the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Research and identify opportunities to fund new strategic projects.
  • Draft applications for grant funding in support of new strategic projects
  • Lead cross-team projects with other departments and agencies.
  • Meet with peer organizations, academic researchers, and municipalities to conduct other relevant research to identify opportunities for strategic projects, sales pilots, and new initiatives for the organization.
  • Gather and analyze data gathered from community outreach to properly identify needs, categorize public input, and make informed recommendations.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support strategic decision making.
  • Oversee the development and approval of new programmatic pilot projects and programs.
  • Assess and maintain a clear understanding DLBA inventory and identify potential solutions to disposition challenges.
  • Interface with DLBA departments, DLBA leadership, City Economic Development Offices, constituents, community groups, and other external partners and vendors to ensure the effective management of the strategic planning initiative, including defining project objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation related to strategic initiatives and pilots.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the departmental leadership.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, urban planning, community development, business administration or a related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in real estate, public policy, urban planning, public administration, or law preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in economic development, real estate, project management, planning, public administration, or other related professions.
  • Real estate background and/or familiarity with the real estate development process, a plus.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong community engagement skills, including the ability to network.
  • Ability to maintain a close attention to detail while working at high volumes.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with a sound grasp of English grammar and composition.
  • Ability to understand and carry out the terms and conditions of contractual agreements.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • A self-starter with the ability to handle multiple projects at any given time.
  • In-depth knowledge of Detroit communities and respect for diverse cultures/lifestyles.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce software, a plus.
  • Possession of valid Michigan driver's license
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout Detroit using personal vehicle
