Job Summary

The Director of the Strategic Project Management Office (SPMO) directs and oversees the Project Management staff to ensure programs and projects meet organizational goals and requirements. The Director is responsible for establishing the structure of project plans for strategic projects, including major capital projects and organization-wide initiatives. The Director will ensure projects are executed and finalized within established deadlines and within budget. The Director will partner with key organizational and operational leaders to identify and achieve priorities, goals, and objectives for each initiative. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members in order to deliver projects according to plan. As needed, the Director will directly manage a portfolio of projects.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, execution, and oversight of strategic and enterprise-wide projects and initiatives.
  • Direct and oversee the Strategic Project Management Office (SPMO) team and project management staff.
  • Establish project governance structures, methodologies, standards, and best practices for strategic initiatives.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, budgets, resource allocations, and performance metrics.
  • Oversee major capital projects and organization-wide initiatives to ensure successful execution and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Partner with executive leadership and operational leaders to identify strategic priorities and implementation strategies.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment across departments and stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, barriers, and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within approved budgets.
  • Provide executive-level reporting and updates on project status, milestones, risks, and outcomes.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources necessary for successful project execution.
  • Lead change management and process improvement initiatives to support operational excellence.
  • Mentor and develop project management professionals while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • As needed, directly manage a portfolio of strategic projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Project Management, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in strategic project management, program management, operations leadership, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional strategic initiatives in complex organizations.
  • Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in healthcare, large corporate, academic, or highly matrixed environments preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma or related process improvement certification preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies, strategic planning, and organizational transformation.
  • Strong financial, operational, and business acumen.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities.
