Position Description

The primary mission of the Program Kitchen Manager is to plan and oversee the production of healthy meals for our community and Goodman Community Center (GCC) programs. This role directly oversees the program kitchen staff, Meals on Wheels (MOW) Coordinators, and volunteers. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with grant/funding/partnership requirements and maintaining positive relationships with the team and our external partners. A strong sense of ownership, ability to facilitate communication, and dedication to serving the community are vital for success in this role.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of kitchen management experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of back-of-house food service experience in any capacity (line cook, prep cook, dishwasher, lead, etc.)
  • Open to feedback
  • Ability to lead and retain a culinary team of varying levels of experience
  • Strong organizational skills, including excellent time management
  • Ability to maintain a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate directly, respectfully, and in a timely manner
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite & Outlook with openness to developing skill to intermediate proficiency within 6 months of employment
  • ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire as a condition of employment

Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for all kitchen functions, including purchasing, preparation, and maintenance of quality standards including taste, appearance, and temperature.
  • Provide oversight and continual training for Cooks, Kitchen Stewards, and Meals on Wheels Coordinators. Ensure all staff regularly receive feedback.
  • Create prep lists & bi-weekly schedule
  • Hold team to equal accountability for performance, attendance, etc.
  • Monitor & verify staff knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Maintain cleaning schedule for kitchen and equipment. Ensure that all Health Department standards are met.
  • Work in partnership with the Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition to ensure all compliance items for grants, reimbursements, and partnerships are met (portioning, preparation, timing, serving, etc.)
  • Work in partnership with the Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition to monitor and implement standard cost control measures
  • Ensure punctual service of food for all programs
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Manager to provide feedback on recipes. Relay information from Nutrition Manager to team
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all staff while enforcing safety guidelines and kitchen safety awareness
  • Update menu bi-annually in partnership with the rest of the Program Kitchen leadership team
  • Develop leaders from within
  • Appropriately delegate tasks & support staff
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed
  • Support Catering team as needed

Breakdown of Responsibility by Time

70% - Kitchen Oversight & Food Preparation

10% - Meals on Wheels Oversight

15% - Administrative

5% - Interdepartmental Collaboration
