About This Role

Seeds of Excellence Christian Academy is looking for an experienced and energetic kitchen assistant who loves cooking healthy meals and engaging with people, especially kids! The kitchen assistant will work closely with the school chefs and must be comfortable working in a commercial kitchen. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is important. The goal is to provide healthy, well-balanced, meals to our students while exposing them to a variety of foods.


What You'll Do

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a keen awareness of children with allergies and food restrictions
  • Offers substitute items to children who may be allergic or have other food restrictions
  • Ensures food service area and food are free of nuts, nut products, or food items that have been processed in a facility that also processes nut products according to policies and procedures. Check all food labels upon receipt to ensure compliance with
  • Follows portion control standards for lunch and snacks in preparations
  • Is adaptable and implements changes in menus, if instructed to do so
  • Ensures that each meal is ready to be served when scheduled
  • Assists with ordering food and needed items pertaining to the kitchen and food service, and can calculate the amount needed
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe kitchen area at all times, including the proper maintenance of equipment
  • Attends all required, staff meetings and training
  • Maintains overall professional personal appearance
  • Assist in other capacities as needed

Skills

  • Experience cooking for 200 or more people
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to lift 35lbs
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Very good communication skills
