About This Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced kitchen assistant to join our team at Seeds of Excellence Christian Academy. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking healthy meals and engaging with children. In this role, you will work closely with our school chefs to provide nutritious and well-balanced meals to our students. If you enjoy working in a commercial kitchen and have experience with various ingredients and cooking techniques, we encourage you to apply.


What You'll Do

Responsibilities

  • We will be taking food allergies and restrictions very seriously in this role
  • We will make sure to have substitutes available for children with allergies or other food restrictions
  • The food service area and food must be completely free of nuts, nut products, or food items that have been processed in a facility that also processes nut products according to our policies and procedures
  • Portion control standards will be followed for lunch and snacks in preparation
  • We need someone who can adapt to changes in menus if instructed to do so
  • Each meal must be ready to be served when scheduled
  • We need assistance with ordering food and needed items pertaining to the kitchen and food service, and being able to calculate the amount needed
  • The kitchen area must be maintained in an orderly, clean, and safe manner at all times, including the proper maintenance of equipment
  • All required staff meetings and training will be attended
  • A professional personal appearance will be maintained at all times
  • Other capacities may need assistance in

Skills

  • Cooking for 200 or more people has given you valuable experience
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware is required
  • All sanitation procedures must be followed
  • Lifting 35lbs is within your capabilities
  • You are able to work well as a team
  • Excellent communication skills are essential
  • Observing Bright from the Start rules and regulations is crucial

Requirements

Skills

  • SERV Safe certification or previous kitchen experience is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of licensing rules and care procedures as guided by Bright from the Start Rules and Regulations is a must
  • Passionate about engaging and interacting with children
  • Christian who loves God and His people
  • Experience working with young children in a school setting
  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
