Job Description

Job Title: Executive Vice President, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and President of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation

Reports To: President and CEO, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce

Established in 1867, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce's vision is the Economic Empowerment of Every Coloradan. Among Colorado's five oldest continuously operating businesses, the Denver Metro Chamber is uniquely positioned to promote business growth, economic development, strong public policy, and community stewardship in the Metro Denver region and throughout the State of Colorado.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team reporting to the Chamber’s President & CEO, success in this role requires an experienced, collaborative leader who can contribute to strategic initiatives that move the entire organization forward. This position carries broad and shared responsibilities for all organizational performance in every department of the Chamber, including membership and sponsorship sales and retention, marketing and communications, economic development, and public policy and government relations.

In addition to serving as an Executive Vice President of the Chamber, this leader will also serve as President of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation (Chamber’s Foundation). The Chamber’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3), was created by the Chamber, a 501(c)(6), in the 1980s and today delivers high-quality programs that educate and inspire a diverse community of civic leaders to engage in issues critical to the region's success. The Chamber’s Foundation crafts best-in-class experiences through a portfolio of leadership programs, including Access Denver, B:CIVIC, Impact Denver, Leadership Denver, Leadership Fellows, and Leadership Exchange Trip. The Chamber’s Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. While the President & CEO of the Chamber is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber’s Foundation, this role as President will have day-to-day responsibilities for the work and performance of the Chamber’s Foundation and will have direct and regular engagement with the Chamber Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a thought partner on the Chamber’s Executive Leadership Team (consisting of the President & CEO of the Chamber, Chamber EVP and President of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and Chamber EVP and President of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation).
  • Optimizes the shared service model in the strategic plan for the Chamber’s Foundation programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as a community advocate for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and all related entities, including the Chamber’s Foundation, the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, and the broader business community.
  • Board management and development, engaging the 50-member Board of Directors of the Chamber’s Foundation.
  • Establish a collaborative and supportive relationship with the Sales and Investor Strategy team.
  • Staff management and development of the Chamber’s entire staff, specifically those engaging in Chamber Foundation programs.
  • Best-in-class program and curriculum development and execution across the portfolio of leadership programs.
  • Strong fiscal management and budgeting.

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. 7-10 years of senior leadership experience in private, public, or non-profit management
  2. Strong support and belief in Colorado’s Civic DNA principles
  3. Strong understanding of business principles and the broader ecosystem required for the success of the private sector
  4. Strong support for the Chamber’s Vision of “Economic Empowerment for Every Coloradan”
  5. Strong understanding of the public and non-profit sectors and their critical and essential role in providing a vibrant community
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of Colorado’s political and policy environments and strong network among regional leaders in private, public, and non-profit sectors
  7. Supervisory experience managing and developing a team.
  8. Excellent strategic planning and implementation capabilities
  9. Proven success in developing complex programs/initiatives and cultivating donor, board, and community relationships.
  10. Superior written/verbal communication and public speaking abilities
  11. Experience managing budgets and financial statements.
  12. Demonstrated success in revenue generation from diverse sources.
  13. Flexibility to work extended hours and travel.

What will you do?

Leadership – The Executive Vice President of the Denver Metro Chamber and President of the Chamber’s Foundation help to inform the organization's strategic direction and guide staff through change and harmonization at the direction of the President & CEO. Balancing strategic and tactical responsibilities, this leader will focus on the organization's long-term objectives, represent the Chamber and all our departments and brands before multiple constituencies, and act as one of the foremost business leaders in Colorado.

Board Development – Collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, maximize and leverage a strong relationship with the Chamber and the Chamber’s Foundation Board of Directors, and provide the strategic leadership necessary to ensure full Board participation and engagement. Maintain regular contact with and advise the Chair and the other Chamber Foundation board members (Past Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer). Manage agendas, suggest topics, support, and serve on the Chamber Foundation's Executive Committee. Work with Board members and senior management on developing and executing program vision and strategy. Plan and organize all board committees, task forces, and subject matter advisory resource teams.

Advocacy – Act as a key partner in all venues to enhance the Chamber’s overall image, funding relationships, and policy objectives. Represent the Chamber at appropriate community activities. Serve on boards, commissions, committees, and organizations related to areas critical to the Chamber’s goals and interests. Continue supporting the organization's regional leadership development efforts through program development, relevance, and execution. Establish, maintain, and enhance strategic and diverse partnerships and alliances with members, investors, donors, and other community stakeholders.

Revenue Generation and Stewardship – Work collaboratively and in a leadership role to meet the Chamber’s financial goals. Solicit and secure individual and corporate memberships, sponsorships, grant funding, and program revenue. Possess knowledge of ‘earned revenue’ and ‘donated revenue’ (including philanthropic donations) and operate equally to maximize both. Ensure fiscal accountability of resources and manage expenses.

Staff Development– Provide leadership and mentorship to highly effective and efficient staff in all departments of the Chamber and specifically the staff dedicated to the day-to-day activities of the Chamber’s Foundation. Develop and lead staff in executing an annual strategic organizational plan consistent with the direction of our Boards of Directors and the Chamber’s President & CEO (Objectives and Key Results) that will sustain and enhance the organization's revenue to support the goals of the Chamber and its affiliates. Develop, mentor, and support staff to ensure accountability.

Program Development – Responsible for engaging community and civic trusteeship through a continuum of leadership programming to include creative vision, execution, and relevance.

Perform other responsibilities as needed and assigned.

Pay Range: expected to be $180,000 – $210,000 eligible for a discretionary bonus.
