Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Retirement Services Operations, the Assistant Analyst is responsible for processing pension administration transactions for retired members of various pension plans. Responsibilities also include determining pension eligibility and processing pension applications in compliance with Plan documents and the law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Calculate pension benefits for new retirees and estimated projected benefits for future retirees.
- Analyze and process pension applications for completeness and accuracy; draft follow-up correspondence as needed.
- Perform banking transactions, including but not limited to pension check stop/reissues and voids.
- Work with third party vendors to collect data on deceased pensioners, update system accordingly with findings, and process bank reclaims for overpaid benefits.
- Track pension overpayments on a plan-by-plan basis and enforce overpayment recoupment policies.
- Reinstate suspended pensioner accounts after validating documentation as per plan rules.
- Validate work history and prior service records to calculate pension service credits.
- Perform data entry.
- Complete standardized written member communications.
- Assist Retirement Analysts and Retirement Counselors as needed with administrative and analytical pension calculations.
- Special projects as assigned by management.
Technical Skills:
- Strong mathematical skills required.
- Basic accounting skills preferred.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft office programs, including Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Detailed oriented with strong ability to multitask.

Education and/or Experience:
College graduate with Accounting or Math related degree or equivalent work experience.
