Medical Records Specialist

Our practice is currently seeking a full-time Medical Records Specialist to join our team!

This role is responsible for scanning and indexing health information within the electronic medical record.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Prepares and processes medical information for scanning into the electronic medical record:

• Collects information to be scanned from appropriately designated sources
• Responsible for pulling and reviewing all charts prior to the doctor's appointment to ensure that all medical records are on file
• Identifies correct patient demographic information on each document, including a minimum of 2 patient identifiers (e.g. MRN, Patient Name, SSN)
• Returns any questionable (i.e. missing identifiers, illegible documents) documents to the Medical Records Manager for review and correction

2. Scans medical information into the electronic medical record:

• Organize, prep, and scan documents into the electronic systems and ensure the efficient processing of requests for patient information
• Retrieves documents from fax server
• Assigns the appropriate indices to the scanned image according to EPGI and document guidelines
• Assigns the appropriate category to the image upon evaluation of the document type

3. Communicates with the Medical Records Team.

• Provides input to Medical Records Manager to identify and communicate needs for improvement in document quality, patient identification, or legibility.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA guidance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma/GED, medical records certificate preferred but not required

Experience: 1 year in medical office setting

Physical Demands: Mostly sedentary duty. 10 pounds, maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some standing, walking, reaching.
