The Position
The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market presence, and fostering long-term relationships with clients and partners in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator with a track record in facilitating early-stage discussions and progressing them from prospect to close. This position reports to the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Implement targeted business development strategies to expand company’s presence and business growth in our services of project management, construction services and general contracting, and commissioning.
- Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients, partners, market trends, competitors, and new opportunities.
- Generating Leads: Develop and implement strategies to generate leads, such as attending industry events, networking, cold calling, and leveraging online platforms.
- Managing Sales Pipeline: Manage a robust project pipeline, ensuring alignment with company goals and financial targets.
- Strategic Partnerships: Build partnerships with clients, future clients, industry stakeholders, architectural and other project partners that will lead to business growth.
- Proposals and Presentations: Oversee the preparation of compelling proposals and impactful presentations, identifying key win themes and strategies, and ensuring that the delivery addresses the client’s unique needs and showcases the company’s capabilities.
- Trend Monitoring and Innovation: Stay up-to-date on industry regulations, market trends, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
- BD-Marketing Alignment: Collaborate with marketing to foster a common strategic outlook across the buyer’s journey – focusing on areas such as buyer insights, synchronized processes, lead nurturing, and new initiatives to expand the firm’s customer base.
- Leadership: Work together and build strong relationships with seller-doers and marketing team to successfully secure new work.
- Promote 35 North by building and maintaining a robust professional network in the industry and within specific market areas. Attend conferences, join professional associations, and participate in other professional and civic organizations, building strategic relationships and business opportunities as well as enhancing the communities in which we live and work.
- Attend bi-weekly business development meetings with leadership to review current projects, and outline relationship-building needs, and targets.
- Entertain key clients or propose opportunities for company leadership to engage with their clients.
- Connect and engage with clients to monitor project progress and maintain connection throughout a project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least ten years of AEC industry related business development experience
- Established local relationships with prospective clients, architects, engineers, commercial brokers, and other industry network sources
- Understanding of the state construction bid process
- Business development experience in the healthcare and higher education sectors
- Consultative selling approach when initiating relationships with clients and targets
- Demonstrated success in negotiating and closing sales
- Superior interpersonal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels
- Strategic thinker with the ability to drive results
- Experience working in life science regulated industries and understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements such as FDA regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) is a plus
