Ideal Candidate

Calibration Laboratory LLC is seeking talented, hard working individuals with a passion to learn a new career.  At Cal Lab, we want to grow our technicians into more technically advanced Metrologists. Entry level candidates will begin as Associate Calibration Technicians and will be given opportunity and encouragement to advance up the technician ranks to Calibration Technician I and beyond.

An ideal candidate has the passion and drive to learn something new every day and apply this knowledge to calibrate instruments in our established lab or on-site at clients' facilities. This is not a career where every day is the same. There are endless opportunities to expand your knowledge and technical skill set with hands-on experience and online training materials.

Entry Level

We encourage candidates who are willing to learn and who are looking for a long-term career to apply. We have an in-depth, self-paced training program to establish a baseline skill set that will integrate a new technician into a productive career in Metrology, Instrumentation, and Quality.

Skills and Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Proficient math skills, including basic algebra
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Candidate MUST be willing to travel to local and regional (Chicagoland area) on-site locations (up to 50%), with occasional overnight travel to surrounding states (approximately 3 nights per month). Actual frequency of on-site travel is dependent on assigned department.

 Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Military service in technical fields is highly regarded

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and complete all assigned training courses and continually pursue new opportunities to expand calibration skills
  • Perform routine calibrations in our laboratory or at customer facilities in accordance with documented calibration procedures
  • Promptly address customer requests, inquiries, or complaints by taking appropriate actions up to and including escalation to management
  • Maintain exemplary laboratory cleanliness through daily spot-cleaning and weekly deep cleaning of lab spaces and work stations
  • Willingness to safely operate company vehicles, including compact SUVs, minivans, and cargo vans

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate orally with customers, manufacturers, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for holding normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents and calibration activities.
  • Using a computer or calibrating while sitting or standing for extended periods (up to 50% of the time) is common. Must be able to move about the laboratory and customer facilities as required.
  • Some calibration procedures and customer facilities may expose to you heat, cold, high noise-levels, chemicals, high pressures, high voltages, and/or heavy machinery. The willingness to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, which may include steel-toe boots, earplugs, splash aprons, safety glasses, respirators, face masks, etc., is required. All necessary PPE will be provided.
  • Continuous heavy lifting is not expected, however on-site service requires loading and unloading calibration equipment through occasional exertion of about up to 50 pounds of force (e.g., picking up and carrying calibration standards).
  • Occasional extensive drive times to farther customer facilities (commonly up to 2 hours, occasionally up to 4 hours)
  • Extensive use of computers/exposure to blue light

Reports To

The Calibration Technicians report directly to the applicable Metrology Supervisor (Electronics or Physical/Mechanical/Dimensional (PMD))

Application Process

  • Submit a resume and a cover letter. The cover letter should tell us about you outside of the details on your resume. We want to get to know you as a person outside of just your work accomplishments.  Any application without a cover letter will be rejected.
  • We will send a link to our entrance exam. The exam must be taken within 3 days of receiving the link to be considered for employment.
  • Provided the exam is passed, we will set up an interview with you so we can get to know you personally as well as you can get to know us. We want to make sure this is also a career and a company you would like to work with just as much as we would like to work with you.
