Job Description

POSITION: General Manager

LOCATION: Lyric Theatre- New York City, NY

HOURS: Full-Time

COMPENSATION: $140,000 per annum, plus discretionary bonus

ABOUT THE POSITION

The General Manager is responsible for leading and inspiring a diverse team, ensuring the venue operates to the highest possible standards, maximizing its potential as ATG’s flagship destination on Broadway for both producers and customers alike.

Essentially, the General Manager

  • Oversees all areas of the theatre operations.
  • Achieves venue’s key performance indicator targets: EBITDA, overhead expenses, performance number, occupancy, admission, average ticket price, and spend per head.
  • Drives commercial and strategic initiatives.
  • Represents Lyric Theatre in the Broadway community.
  • Is committed to upholding ATG’s core values and standards of operation, providing first-class customer service, and delivering professional venue management at all levels.
  • Reports to the Chief Operating Officer of ATG North America.
  • Directly supervises the Deputy General Manager and Facilities Manager.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with venue operations, ticketing, programming and producing, food and beverage, finance, human resources, marketing & communications, legal, business development, and IT departments.
  • Supports and collaborates with colleagues from other ATG venues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Leadership

  • Articulate the vision and strategy of ATG/Lyric Theatre to engage and inspire teams, stakeholders, producers, communities and customers.
  • Ensure team member to work towards agreed goals and targets, achieve or exceed expectations.
  • Cultivate a workplace culture that is committed to inclusion, diversity, equity and access.

Financial Management

  • Be responsible of the venue’s financial performances.
  • Develop the annual business plan for the venue.
  • Contribute in venue budgeting and forecasting to support central finance department.
  • Manage the venue’s operating budget.
  • Prepare business cases for capital improvement project applications

Venue Operations

  • Ensure the delivery of first-class customer service at the theatre.
  • Optimize the venue and its workforce to maximum efficiency across all areas of the business
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of the theatre and manage any capital improvements projects.
  • Enforce safety and security protocols and ensure compliance with operational standards, company policies, federal/state/local laws, and ordinances.
  • Provide senior level show management during performances at least one per week.
  • Oversee commercial rentals at the theatre including rehearsal studio rentals and private events.

Production Management

  • Liaison with ATG programming and content team to service the needs of productions at the theatre.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact with producers and show management
  • Supervise the backstage heads of department.
  • Oversee financial settlement processing and reconciliation.

Human Resources

  • Maintain human resource functions with the support of central HR team, including but not limited to; recruitment and training, employee appraisals, managing poor performance and discipline, weekly payroll, addressing complaints and resolving personnel issues.

Relationship Management

  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the theatre’s relationship with theatrical unions, including Local 1, Local 306, Local 751 and ATPAM; participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Manage relationship with New 42, the theatre’s landlord, alongside the CEO.
  • Manage other contractual relationships, including sponsors, vendors, and contractors.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with theatrical producers, agents, advertising agencies, press representatives, and other professionals from the theatrical community.
  • Develop partnerships with local community groups and neighborhood businesses.
