Brokerage Operations Manager

Are you an experienced brokerage leader who is motived by the success of your team? As a Brokerage Operations Manager at Paper Transport, you will drive positive financial results of the brokerage operations team through coaching and mentoring. Identify and communicate market needs to customer service and commercial teams. Create and implement action plans for growth. Develop a relationship-based carrier network to ensure high levels of service, safety, and purchasing are achieved.

As a Brokerage Operations Manager you will report directly to the Director of Logistics. You will need be an independent thinker who anticipates and proactively addresses market, carrier, customer, and employee needs. You must clearly communicate a case for change with data and garner buy-in to new processes. You will build relationships and teach your employees what to do, while driving results and holding your employees accountable consistently. You must continue to evolve yourself, your employees, and the business through your own ideation.

Essential Functions/Specific Responsibilities:

Create a Viable and Thriving Network

• Ensure clear network needs are communication to the commercial teams
• Daily network update
• Weekly communicate long-term freight needs to sales/AM/CS based on current carrier network, potential market shifts, and booked freight
• Pinpoint regions for the carrier recruitment efforts on based on current freight and upcoming awards
• Manage carrier base by conducing quarterly business reviews for the top 15 OTR carriers
• Create and monitor carrier service performance metrics to be shared with carriers during quarterly business reviews
• Stay current on events that may impact freight demand and/or capacity constraints
• Create performance improvement plans for operational based issues and ensure correct stakeholders are involved
• Drive positive P&L results by managing carrier purchase and effectively communicating customer rate change needs to commercial team timely with outlined desired outcome
• Work with pricing on RFPs, advising carrier strength and current market rate comparable that fit our network needs/growth plans
• Monitor freight profitability- communicate rate change needs to commercial team proactively to mitigate impact to P&L

Broker Carrier Sale Rep Management

• Conduct weekly metric reviews for the brokerage team
• Drive positive P&L results by managing carrier purchase at the desk level and effectively take action when needed
• Control carrier purchasing
• Coach and monitor brokerage team rate negotiation and relationship building with carriers
• Hold team accountable for recouping all carrier caused costs
• Own operational service
  • Create service improvement plans with, and for the brokerage team
  • Implement service plans with commercial team
• Develop employees for future roles by creating meaningful individual development plans

Education and Experience Requirements:

• 1-3 years of freight brokerage experience required
• Previous leadership experience is required
