Controller

The Controller is responsible for maintaining the accounting functions of the organization. These functions include but are not limited to maintaining accounting systems, procedures, policies, principles, practices, and initiatives. Prepares financial reports and presents findings and recommendations to management. In coordination with the CFO, develops long and short-range operational and capital budgets, which are supported by the hospital’s plans and objectives. Prepares cash flow analyses and budget variance analyses. The Controller also directs the organization’s inventory and procurement functions.

Essential Functions

• Designs, maintains, and oversees the organization’s financial internal control structure.
• Designs, maintains, and provides oversight of the accounting department's policies and procedures to ensure asset safeguarding and accurate financial recording and reporting.
• Reviews and authorizes disbursements and expenditures.
• Responsible for cash management responsibilities to ensure adequate cash reserves for operations.
• Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
• Assists in the preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justifications.
• Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
• Provides management with timely reviews of the organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
• Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
• Organizes and facilitates the company’s role in the annual financial audit to include communications and document preparations.
• Organizes and facilitates the company's role in the annual and interim cost reports, including communications and document preparations.
• Organizes and facilitates company response to other audits and/or report requirements as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Responsible for the selection, training, and evaluation of staff.
• Manages and mentors accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality work and career growth opportunities.

• Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Conducts regular team meetings to keep staff informed and engaged.
• Monitors and manages staff workload to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or master's degree preferred.
• Five years of related work experience is required, with at least three years in a healthcare setting preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and statistics to prepare monthly financial statements, reconcile accounts, and evaluate existing procedures for recording financial transactions.
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related conferences and seminars.
• Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the process and procedures needed to produce results.
