Job Description
A barback is a role that supports bartenders and servers by ensuring they have the supplies they need to serve customers. Barbacks perform a variety of tasks, including:
- Stocking: Keeping the bar stocked with liquor, syrups, glasses, napkins, and other necessary items
- Cleaning: Cleaning bar and table surfaces, wiping down chairs, railings, and other high-touch surfaces, removing used glassware and utensils from customers' tables, sweeping and mopping in and around bar service areas and customer common areas
- Preparing: Preparing garnishes, refilling ice wells, and changing beer kegs
- Organizing: Organizing the counter
- Assisting: Assisting with bar opening and closing procedures, running food orders as needed, clearing dirty dishes, refilling guests beverages, moving tables and chairs as needed, coordinating with servers and hostess about available seating options, and assisting in setting up and serving at a variety of events
- Handling: Handling emergency situations, like cleaning up broken glasses and clearing up clogged drains
