Position Summary:

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Administrator in Training assists with the overall direction for all activities related to administration, personnel, physical structure, information systems, office management and safety of the entire facility. Additionally, this position assists with the development and implementation of annual budgets, policies/procedures and goals in each of these areas. The Administrator in Training works closely with all members of the management team and others to ensure their responsibilities are effectively and consistently discharged.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes the Administrator in Training program and competency checklist. The following duties are not all inclusive, will be as assigned by facility Administrator and Regional Director of Operations per the outline of the program.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of facility policies and procedures that comply with Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Assists with the hiring of all staff including but not limited to department head positions.
  • Assists with monitoring and directing the activities of several department heads that indirectly report to the position.
  • Represents the facility in executive level meetings and reports on the facility’s performance.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of the annual operating budget.
  • Review and report on the financial health of the facility.
  • With guidance provided by the Administrator or designee, takes necessary action to make sure the facility meets set budgetary goals while being compliant with government regulations and providing quality care to Residents.
  • Participates in Federal, State and Local agency annual surveys.
  • Review with appropriate department heads any deficiencies noted by government agencies during inspections.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of a plan of correction with the assistance of appropriate department heads for any deficiency found by a government agency and forwards the plan to appropriate governing board.
  • Acts as a liaison with the governing body, outside medical professionals, nursing staff, and other professional and supervisory staff through regular meetings and periodic reporting.
  • Prepare and forward timely reports such as staffing, census and etc. to proper authorities and governing boards.
  • Ensure that appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times to meet governing requirements and Resident needs.
  • Assists with the completion of annual performance reviews of all subordinate staff. Provides guidance and education to staff in regard to their performance.
  • Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
  • Responsible for training new and current staff members.
  • Ensure physicians are compliant with facility policies governing the admission, medical treatment, visit requirement, orders and etc. Reports any issues regarding physicians to the medial director.
  • Ensures that all Resident complaints/concerns are addressed timely and works with appropriate department heads for a resolution.
  • Assists the Administrator in coordinating and attending departmental meetings and in-services. Attends in-service and education programs and attends continuing education required for maintenance of professional certification or licensure.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to appropriate persons. Assists appropriate department heads with development and implementation of infection control procedures.
  • Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines at all times and protects confidential information by only providing information on a “need-to-know” basis.
  • Answers and responds to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Resident care areas.
  • Promotes the Company’s Infection Control guidelines, such as hand washing principles, understanding of isolation and standard precautions, recognizing signs and symptoms of infection, demonstrating and understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste and cross contamination, maintaining personal hygiene, and complying with OSHA standards in the workplace.
  • Promotes and Protects Resident Rights by assisting Residents to make informed decisions, treating Residents with dignity and respect, protecting Residents’ personal belongings, reporting suspected abuse or neglect, avoiding the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards; and supporting independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks as required.


Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises employees in the department and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible by following policies and applicable laws. Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.

Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; scheduling, planning, assigning and directing work; receiving calls and finding replacements for absent staff; preparing performance evaluations; receiving and resolving employee complaints; monitoring and correcting job performance of employees; and disciplining employees up to and including discharge.

Requirements:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management or related field.
  • State licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator preferred, or specific and time oriented plan of when a license will be obtained.
  • Previous experience in a Manager or Director role preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a Long-Term Care facility.


Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision as well as the principles of budgeting and accounting.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations for maintaining licensure for a comprehensive nursing Facility in the state of Michigan and Medicaid and Medicare regulations.
  • Some knowledge of marketing and labor/management relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, to analyze problems and identify practical solutions.
  • Ability to lead and motivate other employees.
  • Must be of sound moral character and possess an understanding of the needs of the aging population and end of life issues.
  • Display a positive professional image and enhance positive public relations for the Facility.
  • Basic business computer knowledge preferred.
