Job Description

Legal Editor

The Georgia Office of Legislative Counsel is accepting applications for one or more legal editors. Primary responsibilities include proofreading and editing legislation, legal opinions, and correspondence drafted by staff attorneys in the Office of Legislative Counsel, other documents processed through this office, and annual indexing and compilations of materials related to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Georgia Laws, legislative summaries, and the like. 

The legal editor position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and for extended hours leading up to and during legislative sessions, which typically continue without interruption for several months each year. Excellent English grammar and usage and attention to detail are required. Advanced skills in teamwork, interpersonal communications, computer proficiency, and time management are essential. Previous editing experience is preferred.

The Office of Legislative Counsel must avoid all appearances of bias or partiality and does not employ persons actively identified with a political faction or persons related to members of the General Assembly or Executive or Judicial officials.

The Office requires adherence to strict confidentiality.

The position is a full-time position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Minimum salary is $55,000.00.
