Description/Job Summary

In this role, you will manage ASHP's award-winning professional publication program, You own and are  accountable for the full editorial cycle, product life, and on-time product delivery of the ASHP Special Publishing program, including publication of competency assessment programs, learning management system-based multimedia products, print books, digital books, and other digital products. 

This position may be based in our Bethesda, MD office or it may be fully remote, depending on a variety of factors including but not limited to business needs requirements of the role and department.  Please note that ASHP requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated upon commencing employment. What You'll Be Doing at ASHP:

  • Recommends and executes Division work goals, priorities, and strategies. Champions and monitors the annual goals for an assigned Division.
  • Recommends and executes corporate and operating policies, practices, and procedures for assigned division. Administers established operating policies, procedures, and practices to help ensure compliance within the assigned division.
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual operating budget for an assigned ASHP division. Monitors and controls actual performance against the annual budget for an assigned division.
  • Recommends staffing levels and an organizational structure for an assigned work division. Recommends personnel actions affecting subordinate employees within an assigned division. Assists in career planning and staff development for all divisional employees. Responsible for setting employee performance goals, conducting performance reviews and recommending pay actions for direct reports.
  • Directs the Special Publishing program in developing products to meet the information needs of ASHP's constituency; advances the priorities of ASHP's Special Publishing program among current and expanded audiences; and maximizes revenue and margin to support member services.
  • Ensures timely completion of product development to meet practice needs and budget goals.
  • Manages the product lifecycle and makes recommendations for new products, product updates, and product retirement.
  • Identifies authors for ASHP Special Publishing content.
  • Oversees author and presenter activities and serves as an author/presenter resource to ensure scheduled completion of work related to digital and print Special Publishing content.
  • Manages contractor activities including project management, developmental editing, peer review, and fact-checking review for selected ASHP Special Publishing content.
  • Applies knowledge of pharmacy practice to curate existing ASHP content for integration into ASHP Special Publishing content.
  • Responds to all customer questions related to ASHP Special Publishing content.
  • Partners with the Vice President of ASHP Publishing Office to identify topics for new ASHP Special Publishing works, makes recommendations based on pharmacy practice priorities and financial for existing editions of ASHP Special Publishing products, and completes initial review of unsolicited proposals for new ASHP Special Publishing content.
  • Collaborates with ASHP marketing and sales colleagues to develop marketing plans and material.
  • Completes the initial review and mitigation step determinations when errors involving ASHP Special Publishing content are reported.
  • Shares supervision of an editorial manager with the AJHP editorial director/deputy editor in chief.

What You Bring To ASHP:

  • Requires a pharmacy degree plus a working knowledge of the theories and practices of a relevant field or discipline in pharmacy, business, or association management.
  • Pharm.D. or equivalent background in therapeutics preferred.
  • Completion of ASHP-accredited residency preferred.
  • BCPS certification preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of five years of prior related work experience.
  • Proven background in pharmacy practice, pharmacology, therapeutics, and clinical use of drugs.
  • Extensive understanding of the ASHP membership and their pharmacy practice needs.
  • Successful and on-time development of ASHP Special Publishing content to meet member service and revenue generation goals.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated track record for on-time completion of complex projects.
  • Command of pharmacy practice issues to guide recommendations about acquisition of new ASHP Special Publishing content and integration of curated ASHP content into Special Publishing content.
  • Exceptional track record of working: in an environment of changing priorities and needs; independently; and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated successful project management capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and self-motivation skills.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
