Job Summary

The OSP Project Inspector (BRV) position requires a working level of knowledge of OSP (Outside Plant) Fiber design and GPON networks. This position is responsible for Design and develop OSP construction drawings, permit documentation, and project manage the completion of the project.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • All inspections of maintenance, installation, and repair of any transport infrastructure servicing business and residential customers within company’s service area (IDF/MDF Closet Rack and cabling procedures, correct labeling of Fiber/Copper cables in manholes and pull boxes, FTTH drop cable depth, all contractor work, etc.)
  • Coordinate and conduct pre-construction and progress meetings with contractors, City departments, and other agencies.
  • Attend and participate in pre-construction meetings with internal staff, Disney staff, and contractors.
  • Coordinate work with contractors, City departments, and other agencies.
  • Work with contractors for project updates, scheduling issues, and answer questions.
  • Ensure all contractors and Company staff are safety compliant per OSHA, Company, and Disney standards (when applicable).
  • Assist with surveying, locating, and field work, as needed.
  • All system troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs from the customer premise to Smart City via Copper and Fiber cabling.
  • Use assigned equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and Company personnel regarding underground facilities.
  • Perform light excavation with a shovel to expose buried cables, when necessary.
  • Properly operate and maintain HESCO (manhole assistance trailer), ladders, hand and power tools.
  • Responsible for following, supporting, and enforcing all internal control processes and procedures and always observing Company safety policies.
  • Contribute to various projects working with minimal supervision, including aiding other departments and team members, as directed.

  • Ability to read and understand maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
  • Advanced knowledge in telecommunications utility installations and standard construction practice.
  • Considerable knowledge of construction management, inspection, methods, and materials.
  • Working knowledge of methods and interpretation of boring, trenching, and aerial work.
  • Working knowledge of the permit application, review, and close-out process in the Central Florida market (Orange County, Osceola County, City of Orlando, Maitland, etc.).
  • Ability to review and comprehend cable drawings, engineering designs, and identify underground cable infrastructure.
  • Fluent in operating test equipment used to maintain and troubleshoot Fiber Optic facilities and subscriber drops (TDR, OTDR, Fiber Scopes).
  • Fluent in universal communications color code for both Copper and Fiber infrastructures and various counts and specifications.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear/recognize audible signals.
  • Ability to safely utilize step and extension ladders (up to 25 ft) or other equipment at higher elevations, as appropriate (i.e., catwalks, cell tower platforms, roof tops, man lifts, bucket trucks).

Working Conditions

  • Intermittent indoor office working environment with prolonged sitting.
  • Outdoor working environment with seasonal heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions.
  • Driving company assigned vehicle to/from work sites in a safe and responsible manner during adverse weather conditions, heavy/light traffic, or at night.
  • Work sites include manholes, hand holes, etc. and will involve extensive walking on various types of terrain, working around objects and machinery in construction areas, and may require confined space entry and ability to work in elevated areas.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools; reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist; standing and or walking for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting in excess of 75 pounds with tool aids.

Other Requirements

  • 3 years’ related project inspection experience or a combination of education and work experience; telecommunications industry experience, preferred.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, outside in all weather conditions, and on various terrains, and at various hours of the day/night.
  • Must be available and respond to after hour call-outs, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays, as required, and remain in service during outages until resolved.
  • OSHA Safety certifications preferred.
  • AutoCAD proficiency with SpatialNet knowledge, preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
